Command screen not working

My GLC350d is almost new. All was working properly, except that this evening when I turned the engine on nothing appeared on the iPad-like screen. Tried turning the system on and off a few times and also a few engine restarts. Nothing. Does anyone have any tips or guidance please?

Did you try the on/off button on the right side of the center console?

It happened three times to my command screen. The mb service detached and attached the battery to restart the system. It happened also in the Glc of my colleague. According to me there is something wrong in the hardware...

Damn it. Nothing of the sort ever happened on my good old c220d sport’s command screen. That’s a November 2007 model and the command and screen have always worked perfectly. Guess I’m going to have to take the glc in to the dealership. Thanks for your feedback.

I have had the issue a few times where the command system would take a few minutes to boot up. Service has told me this is normal (I disagreed.) However, one way to manually reset that has worked for me is holding the cd "eject" button on the dash for 10-15 seconds until the system hard resets. I continue to drive while this reboot occurs with the only issue being no command activities until it boots up, which is generally about 1 minute. I do find that after a reset, all seems to be good for a little while. I only have the issue with command not booting up quickly maybe a couple of times a month or less.

My problem was different: during the blackout, the command tried to start several times without success... I suppose it could be caused by a low level of battery. Before the end of warranty, I will ask a deep check.

Same here last weekend. Finally re-started itself, but went black (off) again. Took car to Service this morning, but as they were punching buttons, it started itself again. Service gentleman said a possibility of a bad Sirius update might be responsible. I'm not endorsing this possibility, just reporting his comment. Only thing that worked during this blackout was the rear camera when you put the car in reverse. Absolutely everything else was not available. On the dash screen, the words RADIO OFF was displayed, that's it!

Check your fuses and replace all fuses linked to the comand system. You will find a guide to which fuse you need to replace online.

FYI, It's COMAND, with one M. It's an acronym for COckpit Management And Navigation Display.

Suggest placing car battery on overnight charge. Have found that a ‘low’ battery will cause this and with a proper top up, the car will behave. Driving around is not enough to charge sometimes. The lack of Comand access has proven to be a low battery in the past, unaware at what % this over-ride kicks in to support other safety CPU’s.
Give it a try and let us know.

Hi crew. I'm considering buying a 2018 or 2019 C class coupe. Do the comand screens fail after a couple of years? Thanks.

Most of the problems we've seen with Carplay have been solved with an Uninstall/Reinstall of the most recent app version. It doesn't look like Apple updates their app without.

thanks man! Do you mean uninstall/reinstall the apple car play on the car? Or Google maps since that’s what it’s frozen on? Made me think to just delete that app then plug the phone in and see if controls start.

any help would be awesome. Lost with google maps and traffic, literally lol.

Reinstall the phone app.
It may or may not work, but it's the easiest to try as a first step.

OTOH, Apple's security modes don't always play nice with others, and it often takes a car's system update to resolve.

Hope it's the former for you. Good luck.

Damn! Now mine. Black screen and none of the buttons on the center console work but my cell is still linked to the car because my playlist works and i can hear Waze. Just don"t see anything. Which fuses are connected to the COMAND system?

There is a setting that can turn off the screen completely.
Are you sure you haven't that switched it off advertently?

Black screen

My command screen went black as I was rebuilding everything after fitting an android auto kit. I have a 2014 e class with the NTG4.7, all connected up ok and seemed to have all the android auto functions available, I started screwing the screen back in when the display went off, undid the screws and the screen came back on, took it out checked connections and tried again and this time the screen went off again and stayed off. I assumed my problem was that I had fitted the android auto control box behind the screen and that the screens blue video connector was pressing on the control box as I tightened the screws. So I removed everything and put it back to standard but still no screen. Managed to get another screen from eBay and fitted that last night but unfortunately no difference. Have tried some of the resetting procedures, eject does nothing on my unit but holding the power for about 10 seconds shuts the command unit down and it restarts in a couple of seconds but still no screen, not sure if this is connected to my problem but none of the buttons around my command control knob light up either, not even sure if they are meant to light up but maybe related, you never know? Will probably remove and check all connections on the back of the stereo later but anyone got any ideas? Fuse locations etc worth checking?
