Command update what is the latest version.

My 2018 GLC has version 10 installed for USA. Dealer insists that is latest. I'm sure I read somewhere that version 11 was released at end of 2017. Is this true? How can I show dealer how to find latest version?

My 2018 also has version 10, and I understand you need version 11 to get the speed limit to display on the nav screen on secondary roads (right now it only shows the speed limit on freeways).

i have version 10, and speed limit is shown on most roads. i think it depends on what map data is available for a certain area.
i wish they would have the sign recognition here in the US like they do in Europe

You are right. My dealer said the same thing, that version 10 was the latest, but then gave me a service loaner GLC 300 that had version 11.

I just verified that I have map version 11. I started with V10, at the last service a couple of months ago I asked for the free yearly update.

Also, I had the speed limit sign on the nav screen with V10, but only on some secondary streets.

Thanks to 672club on this forum, I found the part number of the update: BQ6460365. I forwarded to my dealer (MB San Jose) and they still insist it isn't available. For fun, I searched on ebay and sure enough you can buy it there.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-2018-M....c100011.m1850

Just sent the ebay listing to my service adviser and copied the dealer general manager and asked her to help.

This is ridiculous. It was promised for free.

Another confirmation of V11 availabiltiy if you need it:

2017 GLC.
Navigation Update COMAND 2018. Map Version N. America 2018 V11.0
Installed January 2018 at no charge.
DVD object number BQ6460365 (I don't know what this means because there is no DVD in the box)

The map is on a USB data stick. The dealer included the USB and license key. The license is locked to the VIN of the vehicle.

The USB stick is mostly binary files. There is one database.ini with a somewhat useful header if you're interested.

ntg5_database_name = DB_MBW222SO_USA_USA_S_0000_E33.0290
ntg5_database_userfriendlyname = 2018 (V11.0) N.AMERICA
ntg5_database_medianame = DVD NAV USA V11.0 NTG5 V0.290
ntg5_database_version = 11.0
ntg5_database_date = 2018
ntg5_database_contractor = Navteq
ntg5_database_swid = 0001210B
ntg5_database_adas_delivery = 171
ntg5_database_totalsize = 25660500763
ntg5_database_checksum =

Did you notice any changes to the software, or did jt appear that just the maps were updated?

After providing the service advisor the part number (or DVD number as it is called) and showing them the ad on ebay (and, very importantly, copying the general manager), the service advisor did email me that she will have the update tomorrow.

I did just email her asking if she can just mail it to me and let me self-install. Looks like it is simple, but takes 40 minutes. I really don't want to drive 25 minutes each way to the dealer and then wait at least 60 minutes for them to install it (if not longer).

Does anyone have any knowledge whether dealers will mail and let you self install?

This whole experience leaves me concerned that Mercedes does not have their act together with the software update process. There must me 100's of megabytes of software in the car and I would expect regular updates to fix bugs and enhance features. I did ask my service advisor whether there were any updates to the distronic adaptive cruise control software. She seemed really confused why I might expect that. I've worked in software industry and assuming you don't need updates is folly.

You're thinking like a software guy which will frustrate you when dealing with vehicle software. My experience with this MB GLC and my BMW motorcycle is that dealers and manufacturers update software in case of 1) specific consumer complaints 2) fleet-wide problems that impact many users. They don't do general updates that provide small tweaks to performance or UI. They also don't provide release notes to let you (or the dealer) know what changed in the update.

MB seems particularly clueless about the navigation updates. My dealer service dept claims they never know when nav updates are coming. Apparently there is no regular schedule for the updates and MB does not have a set schedule. As far as I can tell, it is sometime late Fall/Winter.

I don’t understand why some dealers apparently handle the Nav updates so differently, at least from what gets posted in these forums.

I left my ‘18 GLC300 at my Dealer last night to have the recall on the Pano and the rear seatbelts done. I called this morning to,ask them to update the Nav to v11 also. The Service Manager told me that had come up when thy put my VIN in their system and they would updating that as well. No questions, no hassles. They just did it. He did say updates are released in July. I didn’t think to ask him could I get the new one when it came out. I don’t remember whether you get updates for 4 or 5 years, but I don’t think it said “once a year”. It was for a period of time. So I’ll ask for the update sometime after July, and then I’ll expect to get one each July until my time runs out.

Dont let your dealer jerk you around!

i also do not understand the difference between dealers regarding Nav updates. MB of Fredericksburg is my local dealer and I have been very satisfied with their sales and service.

Latest update. Was promised it would be hand delivered to my house on Tuesday. No show. Service advisor went total radio silence. Wrote service manager today who promptly had it delivered to my house, but forget to include the required six-digit license key. And then he disappeared. Hopefully tomorrow he'll email it to me.

Mercedes -- the best or nothing??

I've attached photos of the upgrade kit for those who are interested.

I had just the opposite experience to you robert418. The dealer updated my Comand last week when performing a couple of recalls and when I picked it up, all I got was a sheet that said “Copy for Customer” with all the relevant info (VIN and Ver. 11) and my “Product Key”. The SM said they are supposed to give that to the customer “in case you need it for some reason” and to put it in my Owners Manual. I did NOT get the actual USB stick that contained the update that others have said they got.

So, I have a question.....should I aske the dealer for the USB for “my” update? In what scenario would I ever need it? I assume if my Comand locked up the dealer could restore it if I have my product key in hand, right?

Yes, they should give it to you.
No, you will (likely) never need it.
