New Windshield Question

New Windshield Question
Just got a new windshield in our 2016 GLC. Car has rain sensor, and cameras. Looking over the car after installation at the dealer I noticed this replacement windshield has wires running up and down on both outboard sides. The original equipment did not have this. I assume maybe it's an antenna(?), but dealer was even no help...nothing new there. Anyone have any idea why my replacement, OEM glass has these? Also, the installer told me I'd never know we got a new windshield. i guess that was assuming we'd over look the 3 scratchers on the pillars and the one trim not being installed properly. Anyway, back to the wires??? Did we get the correct windshield?

I'm no expert but here's one thing from a Mercedes parts catalog that may explain the difference:
Part 2046706600 is described as "Glass, windshield, w/tv tuner"
Part 2536709100 is described as "Glass, windshield, w/o tv tuner"
Apparently there is a GLC windshield that includes a TV tuner, which could explain the presence of the wires. Your work order should have the part number on it. The windshield with the tuner is slightly (about $50) more expensive than the one without it, so you may be due a small refund if they put the wrong windshield in your car. I don't think it will hurt anything as the windshields appear to be otherwise identical.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Didn't 2018 add heated wipers? Could those be heating elements? In winter, that looks like the spot where melted water re-freezes, so could be part of that. And you simply got one of the 2018+ windshields. Just a theory - nothing to base this on.

You are absolutely right! Got a call from dealer confirming this. Do not like the wire in the glass. Also more distortion than the original.
