I am considering the purchase of a GLC 300 SUV in either a 2018 or 2019 model year. I have never owned a vehicle that is powered by a turbo-charged engine. Are these engines more trouble prone than non-turbocharged engines, and are they significantly more expensive to maintain than non-turbo engines?
We have owned several Honda V6 engines, and I currently drive a 4 cyl., non-turbo Mazda Miata.
Are there known trouble spots for these vehicles of which I should be aware?

They seem to have the turbos refined and reliable enough that they are being used more and more by car manufacturers nowadays. It is mandatory that you use 91 octane gasoline in the MB turbo engine so you will pay more at the pump. I don`t think they are any more expensive to maintain than a naturally aspirated engine, but a Mercedes in general is significantly more expensive to maintain than a Honda or a Mazda, etc.

2023 E450W, 2020 GLC300
Mercedes has high confidence in these engines, as evidenced by their use in the 2020 GLE350. I have them in two cars, 2017 GLC300 and 2018 E300, excellent performance and MPG, zero problems.

Per my experience with '17 GLC 300 (and before that SAAB turbos), I predict you will like the turbo engine, but you will need to make sure you use the recommended grade of oil and change it per the schedule suggested by your usage, as well as burning gas with the proper octane rating. In fact, I think you will love the GLC's engine; I do.
