GLC cold start, sounds like stretched timing chain.
Hell GLC owners,
Im the new owner just a week old, bought 2018 GLC with 6K miles.
Just want to get your opinion, if I need to go back to a dealer or not.
Every morning when I start the car there is a metal knocking sound for the first 10-15 seconds and than it goes away, I have it noticed with driver door opened, if its closed its hard to here it.
Its hard to believe the chain can get starched in 6K miles but who knows.
Do you have similar sound with your GLC?

My guess is the sounds you are hearing on cold start is just the catalytic convertor and exhaust system expanding as they heat up, especially noticeable with the drivers door open as it is happening underneath you. It might be annoying but it is harmless and nothing to be concerned over, these engines come up to temperature very quickly which makes that cold cat. groan a little.

My GLC sounds like a diesel when cold, but it is only noticeable from outside or with door/window open. My dealer told me it was the sound of the injectors, which I had read elsewhere, as well. It is not as evident when warm. I have the newer M264 engine, so I am not aware your M274 would be any different. Certainly worth checking out with your dealer, for peace of mind.

Yes, I found a lot of concerns about the sound, someone compared with sewing machine.
Sounds like it especially first 10-15 seconds.
I really don't want to take it to a dealer, its 2 hours both ways and this sound exist only when its cold, means I have to leave the car. Will see if it gets any worst.
