2018 rear hatch activation switch lighting

I've had my 2018 GLC since new for 2 years (late 2017 build) and its has been virtually trouble free. quick question - when the rear hatch door is open there is the activation switch on the passenger side. I remember that it was illuminated but now it is not. When it went in recently for its 'B' service I asked the local dealer to fix the light. took them 3 days and then they decided it is not supposed to illuminate. its not a big deal but at night its nice to easily find the switch (yes the foot activation works too) - the dealer said their computer could trigger the light but it won't work for the car owner.

that sounds off to me.... so the question is - if you have a 2018 GLC300 - does your light illuminate in the rear hatch?

thanks in advance!

I have 2018, but sorry not sure what light you are referring to. Can you post a picture?

If you're referring to the buttons to close the hatch, they are controlled by the same switch on the overhead console that turns the lights off when the doors are open. It should be the switch with a light with the cross through it.

oh jeez.... do I feel stupid!!! That worked. Thanks very much!!! The really scary part is my dealer spent hours trying to diagnose this. Supposedly called the factory. If they don’t know these cars any better than that. Thanks again!!!

I only know because I went to the dealer for a recall and told them also that those rear lights didn't work. It took them a while until they found a tech that new it. Believe me, I know what feeling stupid feels like. I'm just trying to save someone else the embarrassment, pass it on.
