Even a little bumper damage can cost you
A week after I got our GLC300 some punk swiped the rear quarter panel. No visible permanent damage. Just scuff marks that could be rubbed out. This was in 2016.
Last couple of weeks I started getting proximity sensor errors and even cruise control intermittent failure. Took it in the dealer and turns out there is a sensor (a big 4x5 inch black box) that apparently failed due to the mounting brackets that are molded into the bumper being cracked and the sensor falling down and getting beat up. That was a $2,000 repair.
So, if you ever suspect being binned by another car along the bumpers . . . check underneath and make sure your sensors are secure. Had I known, I would have gone underneath the car and secured it with 3M double-backed industrial tape.
