Augmented Reality

Is the Augmented Reality a standard feature on all new GLCs that have Sat Nav or is it only part of a higher spec system?

Looks like you have to purchase the MBUX Technology Package for $1600 that comes with it. According to MBUSA.com.

From the US ordering guide all you need is the multimedia package

DA5 Multimedia Package
 549 – MBUX Premium Multimedia System
 365 – MB Hard-Disc Navigation with Live Traffic  01U – Navigation Services
 U19 – Augmented Video for Navigation

Just a little feedback on the MBUX navigation: maps are outdated, and even with the latest update they are 2 years behind.
The routing is odd, inconsistent, and often gets you to the rear of the building you are trying to get to.
The navigation direction is often missing street names / numbers, and exit numbers off major highways.
I paid for the AR and after using it 4-5 times had resorted to Google Maps via Apple CarPlay.

wow, I was considering trading in my wife’s 2016 for 2020 only so I can have these new features especially the augmented reality navigation. Now I am not sure. I watched the reviews on YouTube and was impressed bu it.

I do not have the augmented reality, it's not available in Oz, but I agree with the other points about the often haphazard navigation in the 2020 GLC. That said, the HUD directional arrows are fantastic if you *are* using the navigation and because it's in front of your eyes rather than off on a different screen I find it really useful anyway (enough that Android Auto isn't as nice) and don't miss having AR when I have the HUD.

Hmn, that is interesting. I wonder how well HUD works in a very sunny environment? Do we still see it clearly on the windshield?

It auto adjusts brightness and has worked in every lighting condition I've dealt with, from bright Aussie sun to glare to overcast. Just make sure your sunglasses aren't polarised.

The only time I've ever had a problem seeing my HUD was once when the sun shone directly down into the unit. Because the display uses LCDs, if it gets too hot it can exceed the clearing temperature of the liquid crystal and it won't function as an LC until it cools down again. The direct sun down the HUD "chute" was enough to temporarily blank out the display. Once I changed directions and it cooled down, it came back with no problem.

the navigation and especially the AR part works great. your map updates are free so you have nothing to lose. in a worse case you can use android auto or the inferior apple maps

Basically several technology routes that will direct you to the front door of "Olive Garden"
I went with the ..

1.Heads Up Display
2.DA5 Multimedia Package
-MBUX Premium Multimedia System
-MB Hard-Disc Navigation with Live Traffic – Navigation Services

For everything else there is WAZE and Google lol

I stand by my comments about the MBUX Nav, but the latest Android auto is now sending directional arrows to my HUD, so it's just as good as the stock Nav in that respect.

If you are just thinking of upgrading to get the better nav, it’s better but still not as good as Google map/waze. But if you’re looking for tech as a hole, the entire system is leaps and bounds ahead of the old COMAND. Digital instruments, augmented reality, interior assistant, upgraded drivers assists, and the generally way better menu structure and graphics. Worth it imo.

Hi, in my case (Germany) I had to get multimedia high + virtual dashboard, but these are sometimes not technical constraints but local commercial decisions. Best is to simulate the configuration in your country MB site.
