GLC 2020 comfort mode and 1st gear

As most with a 2020 GLC may have noticed, the comfort default drive mode never used first gear.

always starts in 2nd.
sport mode will use first gear.

while individual config can toggle some things, it doesn’t seem to allow one to stay in comfort mode but also allow 1st gear.

does anyone know how to get the GLC to respect the comfort shift sequence while making 1st an allowed gear?

my issue with sport mode is MB did it the lazy way and seems to have opted not to keep things smooth but rather jerky jerky shifts and fake engine noise volume in cabin particularly during downshifting. I don’t think anyone bought a GLC hoping it would drive as unpolished as a stevio.

I've seen this commented on before...and my response now is same as last time!
My GLC starts in 1st gear every time and when I come to a stop it goes back to 1st always!
300d BTW.

In Comfort mode, my 2017 goes to 1st when first started, after every subsequent stop when the engine continues to run (auto stop-start deactivated) it always starts in 2nd. Other modes might behave differently (I haven't checked) but that's the way Comfort behaves without fail. Do you leave auto stop-start engaged? If so that might explain the difference.

Just curious, why do you want it to start in first gear? Second gear produces sufficient torque.

My grandfather told me when he picked up his Benz from the company directly in Germany long time ago, they told him Mercedes cars are designed in a way so that they can and should take off in 2nd gear. His car was manual and I remember he never used first gear. It's the same with our GLC 300, never goes to 1st gear.

I don’t know about the 9G transmission, but the 7G was designed to start in first gear if any of the following conditions were met: 1st gear manually selected - 3/4 to full throttle applied from stationary start - engine cold (catalytic converter warm-up). I suspect these conditions still apply, at least for gasoline engines, but I could be wrong.
