MBUX question

I have just obtained a 2020 GLC 63 AMG and I have something I can't figure out how to do with the MBUX system, can anyone help?

I want to be able to easily switch between XM radio favorites or presets (not sure what the difference is between those two) while I have a non-XM radio page on the center media screen (navigation for instance). I can put a small version of the XM radio page in the center of the dash (between the speedo and tach) and control this with the small swipe-pad on the left of the steering wheel. That solves my problem except that I can only change the XM station 1 digit at a time. If I want to go from a favorite at channel 7 to one at channel 58, I have to swipe the pad 51 times. Is there a way to swipe through a list of presets or favorites instead? Or is there another solution to my problem?

I haven't found an easy way to do this on-screen, without changing from the navigation screen to the audio screen. BUT, the voice control is really good on this system, so I just give the voice control switch on the steering a quick flip, and after the tone, I just say what I want. I think you can do the same thing if you say "Hey Mercedes", but I rarely use that feature unless I am asking it for something that isn't as simple -- like nagivate to an address / POI.

For example, tap the voice switch quickly, then say "Classic Rewind on SiriusXM" or "SiriusXM Channel 25" -- either are sufficient commands -- I don't need full sentences, or extraneous words like "Tune to...". for SiriusXM It always understands "SiriusXM Channel <Number> or <Name>", and I've never experienced a miss on station changes... For FM, it doesn't seem to know the station names, but knows frequencies, so I simply say "Tune to 104.3 FM" (Tune - to - one - oh -four - point - three - FM).

When you do this, the radio preset bar will show at the bottom of the navigation screen for a few seconds then disappear again, so you can manually select a different station if you don't like what's playing (so if it's a song I don't like, I can just tap another of my presets).

Your presets are your radio stations, and can be a mix of AM/FM/SiriusXM stations (I like that feature a lot).

Your favorites, are what comes up when you press the STAR on the steering wheel, and are a variety of MBUX things, from certain screens to navigation favorites. So if you often drive to a particular place, you can hit the STAR on the steering wheel, and set up that item to be the first favorite that shows. There is probably a ton that could be done with favorites, but I have fully explored them.

Honestly, this system control options are overkill. The trackpad on the console is completely redundant for me, though I do wish the Radio/Media/Navigation hard buttons were there (ala BMW iDrive), but with those buttons on the dash, and having the touchscreen and the steering wheel controls, the track pad (at least for me) is not necessary. But I guess if someone came from another brand (e.g., Audi MMI) where it was used, they would feel differently.

I think it is good to have different input methods, and if one was to break there are still backups left - if the display was to fail, it still would be possible to do many things through the voice input.
I started with 'Ok Mercedes' as a voice command, but now find that using the button on the steering wheel is the fastest, as one can talk right after the short beep - what I find a bit annoying are the long form confirmations spoken by MBUX - not sure where the good balance is, as it is important to know that the right command is being executed. Also, wish MBUX would do more things, like turn the wipers on ( have not tried that - maybe it does ), for sure the windows cannot be controlled - again its a safety feature, but there should be a setting where the user can make the final decision - if one does not have small kids in the car might be nice to control more things with MBUX.

Thank you, High Tech, for the thorough response. I will try the voice prompts, I have always been uncomfortable with them, don't quite know why....

Text message notifications show on the display from your linked Bluetooth phone, and can be read aloud (admittedly, I just have Siri read them by holding the voice switch on the steering wheel and saying "read my text messages" when I hear the Siri beep. I don't think you can display the text message on-screen when the vehicle is in motion, that functionality is only available when not moving...

Not sure what you mean wirelessly for map -- but it's a self-contained navigation system. You can't do Android Auto / Apple CarPlay wirelessly (supposedly that is coming soon)...
