[2017 GLC300] Windshield crack

So the wife was driving yesterday and something hit it and there is a small crack. I looked at it and it's very small, but she doesnt want it to be there.
I went to a local windows shop and the only thing that they were offering to put gel inside it to stop potentially getting bigger, but the crack will stay.
Looking to avoid using insurance, anyone have any suggestions of what to do? or any place in southern california? Thanks

This appears to be a common problem on the GLC. Came up somewhere, I forget the thread.

If insurance will pay for the replacement (if it qualifies for that), why not go through them? I know it's different depending on where you live, but in Massachusetts windshield replacement is covered and does not increase premiums.

in CA it goes up, from what I have heard. its a very small two cracks that are in a shape of a T. One place told me that he can put gel, but it wont stop it from potentially getting bigger, and it wont disappear. I want it to be gone..

Got it. It may not hurt to inquire with your insurance company or broker what their premium policy is on glass replacement. If it will increase your premiums and you want it gone, then you know what to do. If it won't, then certainly take advantage of your policy if it qualifies. I've had the gel treatment a few vehicles ago for a rock chip, and although it was better than what was there before, it wasn't invisible and created a small distortion spot.

I drove MY 20 to ski last week, a big truck passed by on the way. I heard a big noise, something like small rock hitting on windshield, when driving about 90km on highway.

Cleaned the car yesterday and not found any cracks on the windshield. cross figures.
