What does the label in the fuel filler flap state for minimum octane required? NOT minimum oct recommended. I want to use both minimum octane and/or recommended octane when I choose.
If Mercedes states something less than 91 octane is required, that is what I will go with. It is their engine design and their warranty they have to honor. Please.....no opinions on why you should use only 91 octane and that it's only a few cents more per gallon. That is not the point. Thank you.
Your best bet is to follow the owners manual. Following is what it says for the GLC. Pretty much all engines can take the lowest octane available in the given market if the recommended is temporarily not available. The ECU will simply retard the ignition to avoid knocking, which besides reducing engine power can increase fuel consumption. Other than that with a regular GLC there are no adverse side effects. With the AMG models, they generally advise not to use full throttle and high engine loads until you can fill with the recommended octane level again, but in general, engines are more likely to knock under higher loads, so you may wanna take it more easy when filling with lower grade.
