19 GLC300 4M (lunar blue/black/black ash aluminum),17 GLE350 4M (selenite grey/ espresso/eucalyptus)
GLC Towing
I got a trailer. I bought one used for around $5,000, way under what I expected. It weighs around 4000 lbs. I have a few questions:
1. Is it safe to tow 4000 on a GLC300 4MATIC without causing harm?
2. If I can, what equipment do I need?
3. If I can't, I am ready to spend around 30K on a 2017-18 GLE. Will that do the job?
4. Will it work on the GLE?

The factory hitch should be class II, if I remember correctly, that is 3500 lb max tow capacity.

I have owned many trailers over the years for my race cars.....what trailer weighs 4000 lbs???? Are you sure of the weight? Most trailers aluminum or steel range from 1200-2300 lbs for an 18'. The GLC is not a body on frame construction and the trailer rating will need to be followed closely especially tongue weight. If you meant a total of 4000 lbs I still think you will be pushing it and it will be hard on the truck and not a pleasurable experience. I will bet you will be looking at a GLE 6 cylinder for your needs.

Think your already over the 3500 lb limit for class 2 which is what I have..same model

Thanks for info. Didn't load the trailer yet on GLC. Yeah it weighs a ton and is pretty old. Likely will get a GLE V6 350 4M. Booked an appointment, will likely purchase a 2017 GLE.

Looks like a nice truck. This will tow 4k much nicer and less stressful for you and the drivetrain. If its an open trailer, not enclosed. Enclosed are like parachutes and require slower speeds and more HP. I find my self in a similar situation with my suburban. I find the suburban a little underpowered for trailering my race car. Only bothers me mostly on interstate longer trips. It was cheaper for me to buy a lighter aluminum trailer and shed 1200 lbs. over the steel trailer. It was like gaining 75 HP! LOL Lighter is cheaper than trading into a new truck...which I don't need as it is a third vehicle here. Good luck, let us know how it tows!

Nice truck actually. I was a little bit puzzled with the colors, the look great. Towing that trailer was a breeze! Nice interior too, so will be a great road trip car if people in the back seat need to be there for a long time. pics attached below!

Nice !! I have the expresso interior, always get alot of compliments. Its cozy and beautiful. That 3.5 is tried and true. Good luck

Great car. I have a 2015 ML350 , has been a great car so far over 70,000 miles. They have great towing capability of over 7000 lbs ( if you have electric brakes on trailer) You have the interior color I wish I had. Good luck

I sure miss my Diesel W166 (andW164). Far superior to half ton pickups in the towing department. Gas, not so much.

I hesitate to pull a 3,000# utility trailer with our GLC300. When I do, I use a Sherline hitch scale to make sure I have the trailer loaded correctly, to avoid sway.

WOW! I too live in Colorado and cannot believe you would tow anything behind a GLC 300 except if you live on the flat plains of Colorado.

Thanks. The 3.5 is as smooth as any of my BMW I6s or the I4 in my GLC. Brilliant engine. The espresso color was so nice.
