Run Flats or Conventional Tires

Considering a switch from the OEM run flats on my GLC 4Matic to conventional tires. Seems like there are very limited options in the run flats. Dealership just quoted 900 dollars for a mini spare so AAA or MBrace is an option if needed. Any issues with running conventional tires on AWD? (read on a thread that some tires will be an issue on AWD, although I can't imagine why). Any experience or advice when converting from OEM run flats to conventional tires? Seems to me that the run flats were OEM just to save a couple of bucks when it came to providing a spare tire and jack, rather than a performance issue. Thanks

The performance issue would be less weight. Tires are tires. There is nothing special about AWD, conventional or run flat. It’s your preference how you handle a flat tire.

there are a few threads here that can help on both spare tire and tire selection. I picked up a spare from modernspare and some Michelin crossclimate 2's and am extermely happy.

I se no issue with converting to conventional tires for you.
We have 2 x GLC, both 4Matic, one wagon, one coupe.
Wagon came from factory with run flats.
Coupe came from factory with conventional tires, but with an air pump and a canister of goo in the boot, all Mercedes accessories with part numbers.
Same 20” rims on front of both cars, rear 20’ rim on Coupe were wider 20”.
I see some conventional tires now have a self sealing section in them, like Continental and I think Pirelli ?
Good luck, let us know what you end up doing.

Something else to consider - if you have the 19" wheels, Bridgestone Driveguard is available at that size. They are Run-Flat, I believe 60k warranty or something like that, and i have seen others report that they ride much better than the RFT
