GLC300 2020 owner. What to expect on first service due?
Hi,
I bought a brand new GLC 300 4Matic 2020 last year. Mileage is around 8k, a message pops up on gauge meter saying "service due in 28 days"
What to expect from this service? I read on this forum that this is service A, good to pay out of pocket and then take maintenance pkg from service B to 5yr warranty? is that correct?
If so, what would be the price of service A typically? I'm making sure there will be no surprises beforehand.
Thanks!!

See if your dealer has any service specials -- some post coupons on their web site. My local dealer has $50 off A service (and $100 off B service) and I've seen the A service at $159.95 as a special at some dealers in my NY suburb. Price varies based on where you live, but regular pricing is probably $250-400 for A service and $600-$700 for B service in most areas (the B service is an A service plus cabin filter and brake flush). Somewhere in there would be an air filter, which I think has moved from the B service to something a little less frequent.(I forget if it's every third or fourth service).
Totally up to you, but A service is pretty much an oil change and a bunch of inspections. Most dealers do a "complimentary multi-point inspection", so you could theoretically get in/out for about $150 or so by just paying for an oil change. As long as you get the oil/filter changed, you won't impact your warranty, and some dealers claim to have "Express Lane" services for quick maintenance items..
From a cost standpoint you could then buy a 3-year service plan which will cover B-A-B for your second to fourth services and then if you still have the car for the 5th service pay for an A service (or an oil change). It's not worth buying a 4-year plan at that point, as the difference between the 3-year and the 4-year is like $500-600 as it anticipates an extra B service.

I looked at the maintenance schedule, and it appears that the air filter is now 5 years/50k miles, and the spark plugs and transmission fluid are 6/60k. The first item is presumably an easy DIY, but the transmission service quoted from our friend Down Under definitely sounds crazy -- there are some posts here quoting $600-$800USD (compared to AU$2,600, which is roughly $2,000USD). Not doubting what it costs there, but considering 6/60 is also spark plugs and a B service, that would be another $1k USD, so $1,600-1,800 all in.
One IMPORTANT thing I noticed in the prepaid maintenance brochure -- it says the plans can be purchased any time prior to the 1-year anniversary of new vehicle delivery and prior to the first service. I don't remember seeing that in the version from about 18 months ago when I got my car, and the version I remember seeing talked about renewal options. Now, it seems there are two different products -- new car prepaid maintenance, and the STAR PREPAID plans, which are for the CPO/Used car market, and possibly for renewals. SO, I don't know if it's still possible to pay for the first service out of pocket, and then buy a three-year plan to cover B-A-B services as has been posted here several times.

My dealer quoted $350.00 plus tax for A service. Oil & filter is all they do aside from checking items like brake pads. I did it myself oil, filter, engine air filter for $125.00 using MB filters and Mobile 1 ESP 0W-30. Only took about 30 minutes and didn’t even have to jack up the car.

If you don't want any more than the services that are required to keep your warranty intact, you can ask a Dealer only to do those things. That would be things like full car inspections, check for error codes, updates and recalls.
And if you do the work yourself, save the receipts to prove that you did the stuff, and that you used the correct parts (oil).
