2021 GLC 300
Secondary Oil Additives A Service

I am a new Mercedes owner, and just completed my first "A Service" on my 2021 GLC 300. I was surprised that the Mercedes dealer added a few secondary additives to the oil change. One was "Ultra Pro Fuel" (they referred to this as a carbon inhibitor) and the other was "ethanol protection"; more details are attached. Q: are these necessary or recommended by Mercedes? When I asked the service person, he said that most German cars need these additives. I've had Audis for years, and have never heard of this. Comments appreciated!

Hmmm never heard of it either, I wonder if it is region specific? Or are they just trying to sell you unnecessary products?

Although they are selling everything over sticker, they are running low on the actual inventory to sell so they target service?

To the OP, I am sorry that you are a victim of dealerships selling unnecessary services to you I hope I am wrong but personally, I never heard of these additional items ever. I am hoping it is just that it is your region that requires this and that I am wrong about the dealership doing this.

If you are in fact a victim ( to make you feel better ) someone else experienced the same thing here so you are not alone:

2020 GLC300 & 2009 SL550 (previously had 1999 CLK / 2006 E500 / 2011 GL450)
Well, the Ultra Pro isn't an oil additive, rather a fuel system cleaner:

The Ultra Pro is actually this (note the number is also 94350): https://bardahlpro.com/products/fuel...system-cleaner

I wasn't able to find the 92100, but I assume that one is also some kind of additive (oil or fuel).

Personally, $31 each is a bit steep, even with the labor aspect. I am FAR MORE troubled that they just did this without asking, since it's beyond the "A Service " items.

THAT SAID, and PERSONALLY, I do believe in a fuel additive every oil change, but I do prefer to do it myself, and before the oil change. It may be snake oil, but I have always dumped a 20oz bottle of Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner into my gas tank a couple of weeks before my oil change and run the fuel gauge as low as possible before refueling (to maximize the concentration). The idea of using this before the oil change is that if anything ends up in the oil, it's drained out shortly thereafter, rather than circulating through the engine for the next 10k miles. Many say these cleaners don't work as well (or aren't necessary) in direct injection engines, but at $8 when it's on sale, it's a cheap, low-risk expenditure...

Disclaimer -- I don't have any super-high mileage cars, but I've also had no issues in the moderately high mileage ones I've owned ('99 CLK driven to 140k in 2009, 2006 E500 to about 80k in 2014, 2009 SL550 currently at 72k, and 2014 Acura RDX that my son now drives at 75k).
