2018 GLC 4MATIC
Question Please tell me why I shouldn’t put this oil in my 18 GLC

Hello All,
i have 2018 GLC 4Matic and from the first oil change I exclusively use only Liqui Moly 2332 Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40 Engine Oil, yesterday I found this
Castrol Oil Castrol Oil
which is 229.5 spec as MB required for my year.
I use Castrol 0w20 in our second car and never had any issues, and it cost +/- 2$ compare other brands.
my concern is Castrol for MB about 50% cheaper vs LM, Motul or Mobil 1
I like to keep this car for a long time, so oil quality is important, but if quality is good and price is 50% less, I can do oil changes more often.

your thoughts?

When on sale, Mobil 1 is $30-ish here Ontario, 4.73litres or 5 quarts.

Would that beat your local price? Just out of curiosity

I use the Liqui Moly 2332 Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40 Engine Oil in my 2019 GLC and is all I'm using. IMO it's a tough oil to beat. Why change?

reason is my last oil report which I did at 22K miles after 3K miles on oil. Viscosity below norm, and its just after 3k.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'm assuming too much and ought to look at other possibilities. If you do change oil brand, please share the results if you get it tested again.

Sure, but Im not sure which way to go, as MB changed the part number three times already for their 229.5 oil
New part is 000989510711BIFU
replaces 000-989-79-02-11-BIFU, 000-989-83-01-USA6, 000-989-83-01-USB6
im not sure why they do change it so often and maybe we better to stay with MB oil only.

Mobil 1 oW/40 is sold at Walmart for 22.88. It is excellent oil and all I use in my Mercedes for years. My oil analysis come out perfect. Also if you have ever seen the inside of a exclusive Castrol motor you would not use it. I once bought a BMW from a friend that used Castrol full synthetic since new. Long story, I overheated it and needed to do a head gasket. after seeing the bronze tint inside that motor with all the deposits I would never use Castrol Synthetic. A Mobil 1 motor is cast iron grey. It meets the spec, is well priced and the analysis is perfect. I use it in the wifes GLC and my S550. Liquid moly is great oil, very surprised to see that viscosity issue.

I was surprised to see that too with LM after just 3K miles, the only difference between oil changes is Shell gas (only) vs Chevron. LM in Europe the # 1 brand in oil usage for many years, and when I see their odometers on used cars US models don't get even to 1/3 of it.

I'm using Castrol 0w20 in my wife's Nissan for 6 years, yes it does has this bronze color, most likely from titanium, and after multiple analysis engine looks very good at least on paper .
Also just replaced spark plugs first time at 80K miles, they do look nice and clean.

I'm going to send another sample of LM again when current oil get to around 3.5K miles (about in a month or so) and see the results,
if viscosity will be in question, I had to switch, I might try Motul as it's also German oil.

Interesting result with BMW, as I have friend who uses Castrol in his S3 and abuse it so bad, engine still runs perfect at 140K miles.
it might be due to oil changes intervals or internal components who knows.

The nice assurrance with a full synthetic German oil is its 100% synthetic. Liquid Moly is a great oil. I agree I would do another sample. In the US it can say full synthetic but can have a Dino base stock as Mobil 1 does. Amsoil is 100% synthetic and another great choice. I also run a race car and we only use Mobil 1 15w/50. Analysis are perfect and it highly abused with tons of heat and rpm. This engine has been opened several times for maintenance and its brand new inside. I have personally put over 100K on cars running only Mobil 1 and never had an engine issue. Been using it since the 80's. I dont do long intervals so Mobil 1 fits the bill for me. My special cars get Amsoil.

Just received new oil report after 3.1K miles on LM oil. The same thing, viscosity is bit thin. And its only 3.1K miles.
Im going to switch to Mobil 1 or MB oil for a few changes. Not sure why Castrol is much cheaper but this stops me from using it.
