GLC 300 auto seat adjust

There is a software function that is supposed to adjust the driver's seat and steering wheel up when exiting the car. All the adjusters work fine and the steering wheel raises automatically when I open the door but the seat does not move automatically. Is there a way to reset this bit of software?

I've never found a very good description of the feature, but I've come to the conclusion that the seat only moves if your regular seating position is very far forward, or very far back. In the latter case it moves forward so your shoulder clears the B-pillar. And the backrest is only moved to a steeper position if necessary. Assuming you have it set to steering wheel & seat. The seat doesn't move in my C63S coupe, either, only the steering wheel, but my seating position is already far back and the backrest is in a fairly steep position, also the B-pillar in the coupe is farther back, so my normal driving position is also easy to get in and out. There's no need to move the seat. I haven't played around with this, but I suspect if I were to move my seating position way up closer to the steering wheel and lower the backrest it would probably move into an easier position to get in and out. Also, it's likely not moving back if the seat is already back a certain distance to avoid potentially crushing somebody sitting behind the driver.

I called my local dealer and their explanation was much like yours: the function only does something if my driving position is too far away from upright and if so, only the back will move closer to upright.

I had the same problem in the beginning, but found after much experimentation that the seat for driving was adjusted too far back. By moving the seat forward a bit (still comfortable for driving), and setting the position in memory, the seat moved back when the ignition was turned off and forward when it was turned back on. Works fine now.

I get confused..... but its all very comfy anyway. At present, the seat is set so I don't really need to move anything to get out, get in, or just drive

Convenience is what it's all about. If the feature isn't helpful don't bother with it. If you have adjusted the seat to a comfortable position that's what's important. If the seat doesn't go back when you turn the ignition off, either your normal driving position is already back beyond the position that triggers the seat, or you haven't saved your preferred driving position. You need to set the seat and steering wheel to be comfortable for driving then store the position by pushing one of the buttons on the door (marked 1, 2, or 3 immediately behind the seat position buttons). I believe the feature is meant especially for shorter folks.
