2022 GLC now vs 2023 12+ months from now

Per previous thread I just put in an order for a 2022 GLC for my SO. Then I accidentally discovered that the GLC is up for a complete redesign in the 2023 MY. The body styling and engine are close enough to be a don't care. However the electronics are likely to be significantly updated and that is giving me pause.

On the con side I am guessing that the new GLCs will be priced at least 5% higher and the early deliveries will carry a very heflty mark-up. Furthermore the GLC got a substantial face lift and electronics upgrade in 2019 so I am not sure if all the safety and connectivity features will see a meaningful upgrade.

What is the collective wisdom on such a decision. I am inclined to get a 2-3 year lease instead of outright buy and then reevaluate when the market cools off and we are past the first model year.

The X254 GLC is based on the W206 C-Class, the interior of the all new GLC will be almost identical to that car but the exterior will be what is different, especially tailight and headlights.

As for technology, it gets myMBUX from the W223 S-Class (which is gen 2 MBUX, the 2022 GLC has gen 1 MBUX). So it really depends if you like those changes.

As you stated, the price is going to go up for the new generation. Since you are leasing, expect the lease rates to be higher for the new gen too being a completely new generation.

The new gen GLC is a first model year vehicle which means there are likely glitches to fix while the current gen GLC (X253) is near the end of the generation which means most if not all issues are fixed.

As a techy geeky person, wait! The new MBUX system that is offered on their current models is amazing... our 1st gen MBUX will likely start to feel outdated and probably fall by the wayside in terms of updates. As it is, I'm still waiting for MB to release their US Store so that I can purchase the navigation add-on. I've called them and they always say it's coming within a month or so. That was over a year ago. *sigh*... If you are geeky like me, by all means wait! Also, don't worry about the first year stuff. I had an '08 C-class that was first year and it was rock solid. Lasted me 12 years and 198k miles. In fact, if I recall, a majority of the problems started occurring a few years after that model year when they started sourcing materials from other places (seat issues, etc.).

Happy driving!
- Eric

The new GLC will be based on the new C-Class which should be arriving in dealers in the next few months. I recommend you keep your order and in the meantime wait to check out the new C-Class as the GLC will pretty much feature an almost exact interior from the seats, to dash design, etc. The newest generation of MBUX is fantastic and very simple to use based on my experience with both the EQS and S-Class. Other changes that the GLC may adapt will likely be rear-axle steering (2.5 degrees like the C-Class), as well as a new engine featuring a 48-volt mild hybrid which smooths out the start stop feature to be seamless.
