Question about piston cracking/ engine failure

I have a 2019 GLC 300 4 Matic (build in Finland). About 30,000 miles, no problems. I have been reading the threads regarding engine failure and problems with the M274 engines. I saw that one of the posts said these affected GLCs up through 2019 (mine was before the refresh).

My question is, how common is this problem? I don't want to over-react, but I also want to be preemptive if this is a serious potential issue in the future, while the car is still in good condition with low milage. The car is a purchase, not a lease, and I plan on keeping to at least 100K miles. Thanks!

No clear answer exists to how common the problem is. It has been widely reported on this site on C-, E- and GLC-Class vehicles as late as 2018.

The engine in question is the M274. Not sure if the M264 has this problem because the engine is new, but it shares many common components with the M274. So the M264 is not a completely new engine, just a refresh.

The problem is serious if it happens. Whether it will happen is uncertain.
