2021 MBUX icons

OK, I just purchased a T-Mobile plan for my MBUX hotspot and, so far, can see no added benefit. Putting that aside, I have observed the small icons in the upper-right corner of the MBUX screens do not light up (except for signal strength and battery). Besides those, what causes the others to light up? They look like 4G, Mercedes Me, and a little car icon.

I don't have MBUX, but I'm guessing you are talking about the equivalent icons in my COMAND system. From left to right starting with the car/pin icon. The car/pin indicates that the location service is active and the car is reporting its GPS location so you can locate it in the app, the me icon is indicating that the Mercedes me connect services are active and working. The signal strength and battery is from your Bluetooth connected phone, so that's your phone's battery and signal strength. The 4G indicates that your car has an active mobile network connection, and the SOS Ready should be self-explanatory, but means the SOS emergency call feature is working. If those are not lit in your car, then nothing is essentially working. You can check the Internet Status similar to what I'm showing here to see if our car is online. It's likely offline. The MBUX hotspot does nothing for this. That just provides WiFi and Internet access for your personal devices. You have to have an active Mercedes me connect subscription for all of this to light up. MB has recently reduced the 3 year complimentary subscription to 1 year, so maybe your Mercedes me services have all expired and you need to renew them.

Just got off the phone with M-B support: my icons look like yours except for the color which is unique to the vehicle. The big reveal is that I had conflated "Hey Mercedes" with Mercedes Me. I feel somebody could have explained that to me when I got the car.

BTW and FWIW, acquiring cellular internet also adds nothing to the MBUX experience.

Thanks for sharing that... I always wondered if adding on the cellular service would let MBUX voice assistant do more... like be able to answer more questions or look things up on the internet, but if thats not the case, then no real need for internet for me. Thanks again!
