po52e - Dealer fixed it twice for free
I go to the dealer about 24 months after the first repair and they say they don't know what's going on. They will get back to me after they consult with Germany. Meanwhile, I check the code again and confirm it's po52e. I call three times and leave voicemails...no response. I get pissed and call again to the "sales desk" and ask for the service manager. He said yep, this is the dreaded po52e and I likely need a crankcase vent value replacement. I say, you fixed less than 24 months ago. He said, bring it in and we will see what we can do.
I bring it in, and the service rep who said she'd call me back with a solution said "I called you three times and you never called me back" I confirmed she has the correct phone number. I said "I had exact zero missed phone calls and zero voicemails from you." She said you will have to pay for this repair becaue the previous repair was done under warranty and it has no warranty. I said, why would I trust you to do it again when you screwed it up the first time. She said it's a known problem. So I said, I should expect to have to invest $2,000 every two years to fix this known problem? She said, no, it's not a recurring problem. I said, I want to talk to the manager. She said, you'll get the same answer. I said, I want to talk to the manager who told me to ask for him when I arrived. She said, he's in a meeting for two hours. I said I will wait. She said get a coffee in the lounge.
I had a coffee in the lounge...not bad for a do it all machine. 30 minutes later she tells me she talked with the manager and they agreed to fix it for free. I scheduled an appointment two days later and when I arrived, I was informed she no longer works for the company...I didn't ask any questions, but felt they were moving the dealership in a positive direction by parting ways with her....regardless of whether it was a firing or a resignation. They gave me a 2022 CLA 250 loaner and kept the SUV for 2 days...I drove it a few hundred miles and I think it was a nice pepping car that's not worthy of MB label. Two days later, I picked up the GLC300 and the check engine light is gone.
Now I wonder, should I sell the car before the po52e code happens again? Is this a fixable problem or a plague that will never end? What are the rest of you doing about this? Next fix will not be free, so I need to do the numbers an decide my next move. I like the SUV and would like to drive it for another 5-6 years. I expect to be able to drive it affordably for 10 years....after all, I bought a Mercedes Benz.
