Running board removal

Hi from Melbourne
Here in Australia, all GLCs come with running boards as far as I understand. I want to take mine of and just found out from the MB dealer that the parts I need to convert it to the “non running board version”, cost a staggering $3737.00 Australian Anbody has experience with that or is there someone on Oz who might not hav r b and wants to swap?

Get another quote. Around 3 years ago the complete kit was around $1600 from memory, I think I posted part numbers and copy of Dealer quote.
The Dealer estimated another $1500 I think for labour.
Some wrecking yards in UK and USA sell them online, but delivery can be expensive. Parts Dept in some Dealerships will print the parts pages with ID and line drawings.
You had to delete side steps when ordering in Oz, so unless someone had written off their GLC you will have to buy new in Oz or import second hand ones.

Thanks, mate. I think I just got lucky and found a Glc 300 like mine without the running boards at a wrecker. My I pick your brain regarding no run flats? I have 20 inch wheels and was quoted in the low $500 for some 255/45/20 no run flats. I am just a bit worried that if I go that way, and the improvement in comfort is only marginal, I have to drive at least another 40000k with those, or should I bite the bullet and get some 19 or even 18 inch rims wit runflats? I am not after a performance tyre but rather have max. Comfort. Do you have any experience with that.

Confusion and hesitation runs rampant.
We have GLC steel springs and GLC air suspension.
Steel had Pirelli runflats, terrible, MB changed them to GoodYear All Season, mud & Snow to reduce juddering from front left in cold, wet, hard right turns - made better with steering knuckle replacement.
Air suspension is much better, but came with Michelin Latitude 3 normal tyres, again MB changed then to run flat Goodyears. Ride did get worse and wife hates them, but they perform quite reasonable for an All Season tyre, in run flat construction.
Thinking of getting normal tyres next, maybe Michelin, I think a couple of tread options - Costco have some good deals.
Michelin will not import their new All Season that is getting great reviews in USA and UK.. Conti had an SSR, self seal tyre, not sure if still avail for GLC 20” family.
Yes I too toyed with 19”, 18” rims and either runflats or normal tyres…… hard to find rims from MB in correct ET, offset, etc and to check if tyre size is readily avail in Oz and not an ‘orphan’ tyre size that makes then $$$ and rare to source.
You can see my dilemma- a few owners have gone normal and Cary a spare or a 4x4 tyre repair kit with glue and spaghetti and goo sealant (buy a tyre air pump too)
Then on top of all this in USA they sell a very good spare tyre kit that fits around our brakes and are the correct diameter so as to not stuff up transmission with car computer compensating for different traction, diam, etc…….but they will not ship to Oz at this stage. Maybe some owners get together and ship a pallet over and split the costs ?
