What is your GLC's coolant/engine temp?

Hello,
My wife is the primary driver of our 2018 GLC 300 that we bought about a year ago (certified from a dealer).
I drive it about once a week, and noted the following:
1. The temp. gauge consists of 12 section/dashes (the 12th is red);
2. At the operating temp. the vehicle displays 8 sections lit, so the temp. is at least a section or two above the middle of the gauge.

It did bother me somewhat so last night, after driving for about 50 min at the highway speeds, I connected a generic code reader (Launch CRP123).
The temp. was 205F, then, after idling for a few min. , it went down to 197F.

Can anyone tell me what the temp. gauge in your GLC displays?
Does anyone know if 205F is considered "normal" operating temp.?

Thanx

Normal.

MB visual dash indicators give the appearance of “warm” engine by their choice of where to place the “is” temp in the range of the gauge.

I agree with chassis. The Germans have always liked putting the normal operating temperature "needle" position past the halfway point unlike most others. My old VW Scirocco was like that, many Jettas and my Opel Kadett. Go figure?

The reason manufacturers took gauges out of cars and installed idiot lights in the '60s, was primarily because people were continually complaining about gauge readings. Back then, the gauges were adjustable, and if the complaints were loud enough, warranty covered the labor to do the adjustment. It wasn't a cost saving idea.

The important thing is that the gauge remains in its normal range.
You'll get plenty of warning if you overheat - warning lights and pop up displays, plus a limp mode if things get critical.

195 to 205° is normal.
The boiling point of a 50/50 antifreeze mix, with a 15 psi radiator cap, is 268° F.

Thanks a to everyone who replied- I do understand that there would be a warning before the engine overheats, but prefer not to get to that point.
