2020 GLC - Map Update Availability...

Hi all-

Buying a 2020 GLC w/ advanced MBUX navigation. It does not appear that the previous owner ever updated the maps...when I test drove the car it looks like the maps all were dated 2019.

Are we able to still either online update the maps for this MY or download them? Any helpful tips on the steps we will need to take to do that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

It can be updated. You will need a Mercedes me connect web account. Maps are updated annually but you'll have to pay a fee for them. There are numerous services that can be activated from this site. All for a fee.

Thanks for this.

Do you know if Maps are specific to MY of cars or can I download (using the Download Manager from Me Connect) using my login for my 2023 GLE the map update and then apply them to the 2020 GLC?

Doesn't seem to be a charge to get them downloaded to a USB stick.

Also, do you know which of the USB-C ports on the GLC I would plug into? I believe there are two of them.

Thanks again!

I think it's VIN dependent. You do get three years at no extra cost with a new auto with Navigation option.

The downloaded maps are locked to the VIN, so no you can't download them for your GLE and then install it on the GLC. The 2020 GLC is using the same system, though. Also, being a MY2020 as said above, you get three years of free map updates, but depending on when the services were first activated they may have already expired or will expire sometime this year. You have to get the Mercedes me connect service transferred to you from the previous owner. After that you have to renew annually. There's only a single package now. The a-la-carte option is gone with the Store 2.0. Map updates come out about every 6 months, and the home region gets updated automatically via OTA update. The other regions have to be downloaded and installed manually. Your 2023 GLE only has 1 year of free map updates. They changed it from 3 years to 1 year with MY2021.

Thanks superswiss.

Am taking delivery of the car today, so will need to add it to my ME Account and see what's up. I do know that the original in service date was 12/19 and the salesperson mentioned the 3 years. So my guess it's long expired now.

A little confused about the "single package" vs "a la carte" that you mention in your email. When I looked at ME Connect I noticed that it still lists the ability to retrieve regions separately using the download manager. Is this what you are referring to?

Thanks again!

No, I'm talking about the Mercedes me subscription. There's one subscription package now that includes all services compatible with a specific VIN. You can either renew it monthly or for 12-months at a time. Used to be that you could individually renew just the services you wanted. They had 5 or so packages before, covering different subsets of the services. For example when I renewed last year, I didn't renew Remote Start, because I never used it, but I renewed everything else. The new package is cheaper though than what I paid last year to renew the service I'm actually using, so I guess I'll come out ahead this year and I will have Remote Start if I ever plan on actually using it.

Yes, for the maps, you can still download either just the home region or the complete map. You no longer can download individual regions, though, outside of the home region. Used to be able to download each region individually.
