Question Traffic Speed Threshold for Cross-Traffic Alert Detection?

Hello All. New member from Canada. Looking forward to discussing technical and reliability topics with everyone here to keep our Mercedes's on the road.

Question - Is there a max speed of the cross-traffic for the rear parking sensors to detect?

Here's the background story - I was reversing my GLC300 out of a parking spot, and another car approaching in the lane tried to thread the needle, and scraped my rear bumper. My backup sensors didn't beep at all when the car was coming, and I couldn't see the car until it was too late as it was coming so fast across my rear. I wonder why my rear sensors didn't detect that car.

Thanks in advance!

Below is for GLB and shows up to 43mph as limit for crossing vehicles. It might be similar for GLC, but you should check your GLC manual. My GLB doesn't have driving assistance package, but it has PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist and rear auto brake for crossing vehicles worked in the parking lots and city streets with speed limits at 25/30mph.

Much appreciate your response! Is this from the owner's manual?

Just to be clear, those speeds are the speeds of your car, not the other car, pedestrian etc. I've never seen a pedestrian move at 43 mph . In general, these systems are only aids. They are not guaranteed to warn you in every situation. If I can't see when backing out, I switch the rear camera to wide angle view. That shows me what's on each side before I have any chance of peeking out from behind whatever is blocking my view.

Yes, from owners manual. You can find it online also. As Superswiss said it is the speed of your vehicle so it doesn't tell the speed of other vehicle...
