Nav prompts muted from iPhone over Bluetooth

I have a 2018 GLC300, which does not have Apple CarPlay. I prefer to use my phone for nav just because it's quicker to input destinations. When I try to use my phone's nav with the phone connected to the car through Bluetooth, the nav prompts don't play. If I'm also listening to music, the music will mute, but I don't hear the nav prompt. I've looked into whether the phone's nav prompts are muted, and they are not. It seems weird that one audio source on the phone would come through Bluetooth, but the other doesn't

I've considered getting a dumb Bluetooth dongle to plug into the car's aux jack.

Make sure the navigation guidance volume is not all the way down. The iPhone has separate volume levels for music, navigation guidance etc. While the navigation guidance is supposed to play, turn up the volume. This should control the navigation guidance volume as opposed to the Entertainment/Music volume. You should be able to use the steering wheel volume control as well and the volume bar on the car's display should say whether you are adjusting the music volume or the voice guidance volume. If that doesn't work, turn up the volume on the phone using the side button while the navigation guidance is playing.

Appreciate the answer, but I've tried that and it doesn't work.

Which navigation app are you using? Or does this happen with all of them? The apps also have a setting to play the voice guidance as a Bluetooth phone call. This is useful when listening to the radio, otherwise the voice guidance is only heard if you have Bluetooth selected as the audio source. For Apple Maps the setting is under Spoken Directions and the setting is called Directions on Radio. In Google Maps it's under the navigation settings and called "Play as Bluetooth phone call". What do you have those set to and what's your audio source?

I typically use Google but have found thee same issue with Apple. I should also give Waze a try. Thanks very much for the advice about settings, I’ll try that out.
