My Modifications

Here are some of the mods I've done on my 2018 GLC with the 2.0 M274 engine.

The M274 engine is fitted with a demand-controlled solenoid to regulate the oil pump output for better fuel efficiency. This solenoid reduces oil pressure on purpose! Crazy! They operate the oil pump at the minimum lubrication level the engine can tolerate to save a fraction of an MPG at idle and low RPM cruising. This oil solenoid mod has been researched, tested and well documented in these forums. I disconnected the solenoid to run normal oil pressure all the time. Now, my engine always has normal oil pressure for piston cooling squirters, lubricating camshafts journals, and supplying VVT phasers with consistent pressure. This normal pressure has truly transformed my engine drivability and performance. My engine is noticeably smoother and responsive in every way.

Used a vacuum cap to protect it.

For boost pressure control, I added the Dinan Sport Performance Tuner. It piggybacks on the pressure sensor to enhance performance. This module has 5 settings: VALET, STOCK, SPORT, SPORT+, and RACE. I run the Dinan in SPORT+ mode with the car in the SPORT dynamic or agility setting. The car seems most happy with this configuration. I love it! This mod has really awakened the car. It’s so fun and a pleasure to drive. The HP gain is probably 20. However, the torque is highly noticeable at a plus 40 ft-lbs. The car just pulls stronger! She's not fast but the fun factor has been raised.

To address charge air cooling performance, I added a turbo blanket to reduce intake temperatures. It keeps the heat in the hot side of the turbo. It protects the cold side and surrounding components to reduce heat soak. The airbox is directly above the turbo! I added more heat shielding to the air filter box and air intake tubes. These lower temperatures lead to higher air density and more power. I have no data, just by the seat of my pants observations.

With the Go Fast Bits diverter valve, I noticed an improved throttle response and smoother boost levels with more consistent power delivery. Before, I would let up on the power around a corner and when on the accelerator again, there was a slight lag and then the boost would kick in with a jerk. Now, the power is instantaneous and comes on smoothly with this diverter mod. For me, it has addressed the air bypass problems of the stock valve by relieving excess pressure much more efficiently.

The fastest piece of kit I’ve installed must be the rear spoiler. Oh yeah, huge gains!

This car has been one of my favorite. I really enjoy the ownership and driving experience. Making it my own has been highly rewarding. Thanks

Good choice of the oil pump solenoid mod, you don't have a CEL right? If you do, could plug in dummy solenoid externally. Good choice of words, "normal" unlike others that mentioned high oil pressure which is inaccurate.

Yes, I noticed that the wheel stance was different front to back. The rear tires tucked under the wheel arches 12 mm more than in the front. I added rear wheel spacers to make them even with the front tires in relation to the body of the car. I'm running the stock AMG wheels in the 255/45R20 tire size.

I switched out the stock exhaust tips for some AMG types I got off eBay. They give it that dual tip look.

I added a chrome rear sill plate protector. Although my car has the night package, my door handles, exhaust tips, and all the badging are still chrome. So, it matches well. You can see the bumper guard in this photo:

Correct, I do not get the check engine light displayed with the harness to the solenoid unplugged. I do see the code present with my Autel scanner. The P06DA00 code triggering CEL seems to be dependent on model year, and software level. Yes, a cheap dummy solenoid externally connected would solve that issue. Thanks!

You're welcome : ) Sounds good, no need to install the dummy solenoid if you don't get the light, forgot you mentioned you have a 2018, I see, only 2019+ and including model years have a CEL.

Very cool!
It must have been fun to research and implement those mods.

How easy was it to remove and install the new tips? Is it just removing a few bolts or do you have to take the bumper off too?

Hi, Yes, it is just removing 2 bolts on each tip. Once those are out, it's a little tricky to get the tabs out of the retainer slots, but no need to remove the bumper or any trim.

Thanks for the info. Brought my 43 used and the exhaust tips have some pitting and corrosion. Planning on replacing them sometime.

Thanks for the link.. Does it come with double-sized tape preinstalled or does it require both double-sized tape and mounting screws? Do you think gloss black looks good on selenite grey metallic? I don't have night package and I love chrome..
