Trans Service

2019 GLC 300 RWD with 30K miles.

Got a quote from an independent mechanic $650 for trans fluid drain and fill with OE Parts including filter and gasket. Is this reasonably priced? In So Cal.

I think it depends on the type of fluid, instruction set being followed, access to Xentry procedure, etc.

That's not terrible price wise being a 9G.

I paid $950 recently at the dealer for the trans service, if the independent is doing everything in the work instructions along with using all Mercedes parts/fluids that's good price.

try Mercedes of Calabasas for a quote first if you're near them, their pricing is great for a dealer. definitely sounds reasonable though

I recently paid $1,000 at the Mercedes of Santa Monica for the transmission fluid service.
Somehow, I don't trust indies touching crucial parts of my GLC. It's my personal principle.

I did 8 liters replacement by myself under $200 with the compatible pan and fluid, years ago.

I just did this service to my MY19 GLC300.
It was $300 for OEM parts and $200 for 10 liters of OEM fluid.
I drained the torque converter and pan, replaced the pad and ended up using around 8.5 liters of fluid. I did not do a flush.
Took about 3 hours to complete.
Dealer in the Cincinnati area were quoting $1500 for the service.

don't you need to raise the whole car and cycle through the gears while checking the fill level? how did you accomplish that part

No, that's not needed. Just need to measure the amount of fluid that you take out and fill 1/2 to 1 liter extras, then run the engine and allow the temperature of the trans fluid to reach 35 - 40C. Then you open the drain plug, set fill tube to positions 3 to allow the excess fluid to drain off. There is a tube attached to the drain plug opening that sticks up into the fluid that is at the correct fluid height. There are plenty of videos out there that describe the procedure better than the WIS.

I did shift thru the gears (P,R,N,D) while it was warming up (with foot on the pedal) just to cycle some of the valves, but it really isn't necessary.

Nowadays, the dealer does a flush so they don't have to drain the torque converter.

I have done both a 2017 and 2018 (same process) using Xentry. It is a very specific instruction set that requires the parking brake to be set. Engine RPM increased to >2,800 RPM for >2 seconds. Valves are cycled in P and N only, temperature dependent to move to next steps. Once all steps are completed, then it's position 3 on the pan until a thin line to set level. Then position 1 and drain plug installed to complete the work.
