Please help!

Hello, i'm looking at buying a 2017 Mercedes GLC 300 4Matic with 62,000 miles. 2 previous owners and locally maintained. Would you guys recommend? I've owned luxury vehicles before (only BMW & Volvo) but need a second car, I know they aren't cheap to maintain and require strict maintenance but I don't want a car thats going to leave me stranded on the side of the road or leave me with a $5,000 repair bill within the first year of ownership.

I do not understand the question.....ANY car from 2017 could at any point break about any item...just for giggles I looked up the price of a new trans for a 2017 Chevy Malibu...seems right in line with MB theoretic costs.....no more, no less.

A 2017 Chevy Malibu transmission replacement typically costs between $3,500 and over $6,000, with average, total costs often falling around $4,000 to $5,000 for a remanufactured unit installed at a shop.

On the one hand it is only the second model year of the GLC 300 (which replaced the GLK model), so generally speaking a lot of the bugs and issues wouldn't have been worked out, yet; on the other, it does not seem to be part of the 2018-2023 GLCs which can have the exhaust valve system issue (requiring an entire engine head replacement - albeit under a 15yr/150K mile warranty now). If I were thinking of getting an older Mercedes SUV, I would certainly consider a 2015 low(er) mileage GLK 350. Many still around, and are very solid and very reliable when maintained well.

Do you have access to the car's service records? 50K to 60K miles is about when several service items are due -- sparkplugs, gearbox fluids, and maybe brakes (fluid, pads and rotors). How are the tires? You don't want to be hit right away with several thousands of $$ in service interval expenses. It's not unwise to have the car inpected by an indy mechanic before buyig it.

Sorry for not elaborating, I'm very much aware that a 2017 will not be perfect therefor any 10+ year old german vehicle. But I just wanted to know peoples personal experiences from 60k+ miles so I knew what I could expect going into this.

If they were going by the typical 10K service intervals for Mercedes, at 62K it should have had tranny fluid, brake fluid, spark plug changes, oil & filters, at that point - the dealership should be able to verify those (and any other) services were done. Each service also includes a number of inspections. To get all the maintenance history before I bought mine (with 52K), they were able to pull a "Vehicle Master Inquiry" that was for internal use only.... since this car was serviced in another state and Carfax had none of the records til the vehicle landed on their lot.... and it came up with everything that was done at a dealership in NJ. I wasn't going to budge on purchasing it until I knew its full service history. Took a bit of insistence, but they capitulated. Your dealer may already have all the records, if you haven't already gotten them, for your peace of mind. Insist on a printout.
My wife's 2013 C300 has been a great, reliable car, still running like a charm at 94k. Just done the basic maintenance (had the timing chain tensioner issue early on, but was fixed under a recall). If you do enough research, each model year has it's things, but it's good to go into it knowing what they might be.

Best car I had - ever was my 2004 C240 wagon. Nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing but normal service.

Gave that car away at 240,000 miles - it looked great and was going strong.
