Hi GLC Mike, How was the oil draining process ? I think the drain plug is a bit different that the typical threaded plug. Did you need to use ramps or a jack? Or just slide under ?

For the oil draining process, I just jacked up one side of the front about 6 in. Put a safety jack stand in as well. Slid under and took off the wind deflector plastic plate that covers the entire car but you only have to take off the front which has eight screws /bolt. You'll see what I mean as you take them out I think they're 8 mm. And then you can use a quarter or the plastic t-shaped tool that is designed to take out the oil plug. This oil plug is a little plastic flush mounted plug. It's very easy to take out and is reusable. Drain and refill. Honestly the most difficult part was taking off the wind deflector plastic shield. Just because it had eight areas of contact. But when it came to removing the element from the canister that is a different story!. I struggled with that for over an hour to get that released from the canister. The x254 engine has an elongated canister that holds the element inside. I could not figure out how to get the element removed from the canister without destroying it. So I left it and reinstalled it. If you get that far and your element comes out easily. Can you tell me what you see inside the canister? That would be a big hell for me and also tell me if you have any problems getting that out. I am hoping there is not a special tool needed. The reason I'm saying that is because I cannot find it anywhere online. I'm going to call some local repair shops to see if they have had any experiences with this x254 2024 engine. The car is so new it only has 1700 mi on it. But I did a first oil change to get rid of the factory oil. So I will probably be leaving the oil in for the next 5,000 MI. Thanks for your help if you go through this process. Just ping me here. It is very easy to change the oil on this car..

Thanks for the tips,we think the same wifes GLC has around 2,000 miles and as soon as the weather breaks I'll change the oil. Agree these shields are a PIA. My E class you need 3 arms to get them back in position.

2023 C Class
I asked a German MB tech and he confirmed you just need to pull the filter from the housing, no tricks or tools needed. Try harder.

Well thanks for the extra feedback. It has fresh oil in it now so I'll let it run for a few thousand miles, I don't mind changing the oil it's fairly cheap in my eyes. Especially when you do it yourself. Another person posted a comment as well. By saying that the spring mechanism that I feel in the canister is designed just to keep the filter in place to the engine. He did say that you have to pull very hard to get them off because they clip into place and they are plastic. So the journey still continues I will try in a few months. Thanks again

perhaps always include the exact year and engine ie: 2024 M254 4 cyl with ISG/hybrid drive. keep in minde this is used in all 2024 4 cyl mercedes. not amg or mybeck. But certianly used in all c class cars as this is the path forward said my Sailman
