Squeaking noise from luggage cover

Hi All,

I got my GLC 2023 just last month. I upgraded from GLB so liking the difference. Initially the car felt very silent but I am noticing small rattles/squeaks creeping up already. Right now, my major issue is with the cargo cover.

If I remove the cargo cover, quite a lot of noises from the rear vanish. Any suggestions how to fix it or anyone else ran into it ?

Thanks

I have the same issue but on mine, it’s not the cargo cover. I removed everything from the trunk, the cargo cover, and the spare tire cover. Still made the noise/rattle. The only thing left is the rear seat. It seems like it’s coming from the rear seat on the passenger side. If I have a passenger in that seat, it doesn’t make the noise. It got cold here so I’ll try removing the rear seat when the weather gets nicer. It didn’t make the noise when I first got the car. I’ve had the car 4 months.

Don't leave the cover retracted and see what happens. If you're not using it much, remove it altogether!

Yes, there is another more rattling kind of sound that sometimes is audible on really bumpy roads. I haven't tried removing everything from the boot, that will be my next step. Luggage cover sound I am dead sure as I removed the luggage cover and the rear of the car was very silent on the same roads, even after I tried to hit every bump.

I can try that but I do want to use the cover because:
1. I don't like my boot to be exposed for safety and it looks dirty with stuff kept sometimes
2. The car isn't cheap exactly and is barely over a month old, so I should not need to resort to such workarounds. If there is an issue with the luggage cover, the dealership needs to fix it.

The cover in my X3 rattles all the time if it's not being used. I use it every chance I get but it would be gone if I didn't care about privacy.
I highly doubt your dealer will be sympathetic about the situation. They'll probably tell you "use it or lose it"!

I got mine in July and noticed the creaking, I tried alsorts to stop it over the next few months but it just got worse. I ended up getting it replaced underwarranty but that started squeaking again after about a month and it had been getting worse.

I did wonder if it was actually the side panels that were creaking but I then, 17th November, another driver had one delivered so I swapped the covers and the new one was fine again so clearly the cover was the issue. The new one was fine unitil 11 decrmber when i got the odd creak/squeak and now it is gerring worse each day.

There clearly is a problem with these and everyone needs to be complaining to the dealers as this is not what you expect and should have to put up with on a 'premium brand' car.
