2020 GLC 300, low miles, Cylinder Head Replacement

SORRY, long post. The week I took my daughter’s 2020 GLC 300 with 43,000 miles to our local Mercedes dealership (because the check engine light was on) was probably one of the most stressful days of my life. I have read lots of posts, and honestly mechanically, I couldn’t tell that anything was wrong with her car. It was running completely normal, had not broken down, was not making any noise, etc. I left the dealership being told that the cylinder head needed to be replaced, and would cost us right at $10,000, and they were backup at least a month before they could fix it. I came home and immediately started reading through more posts on this site and determined that her SUV the same engine that Mercedes had issued a warranty extension on. I started actually being optimistic that Mercedes would potentially fix her car for free. The next week, the mechanic called me and told me that I was correct. It was the same motor that Mercedes had issued a warranty extension for, but when he entered our VIN into his system, it came back as non-covered. He also implied that if we could afford the Mercedes, we could surely afford a $10,000 repair bill. Livid, I called MB of America, logged a complaint, and received a case number. The representative told me that someone would call me within two days. No call back, so a week later I called back, asked for status and also asked to be transferred to a manager. A member of their management team called me back within three days. He agreed that Mercedes should cover the cost, but he was not the final say. He then sent my case to a field specialist that was going to research it further. Two days later, he called back and said the field specialist denied covering it also. I immediately sat down and emailed 10 executives in the Atlanta Georgia division unexplained the entire debacle to them. Two days later, the manager I had spoken to previously called me back, told me that someone on his executive staff had forwarded my email to him. All this to say, Mercedes finally came back and said through ‘Good Will’ they would pay for half of the service repair on the cylinder head. Advice, keep asking, keep emailing, keep calling, keep escalating. If they knew that these engines ALL had the same issues, they should have issued the warranty extension on ALL of them, not excluded certain VINs. Honestly, this SUV hasn’t had one minutes trouble until this. My daughter loves it, and ultimately, now, after putting the money into it, she’ll have to keep it. I am praying that nothing else happens to the car, and if it does, it’s not a repair bill of $10,000. Probably our first and last Mercedes.

I was thinking of purchasing a new CLE Cabriolet to replace a 2018 E 400 Coupe. I'm glad i didn't. It seems that MB is having reliability issues.

not good to hear about M264 having these issues, as cylinder issues were mainly on the M274.

Keep the C238 E 400 with the reliability of M276 plus no b pillar!
The CLE 300 uses the M254 engine so it might have cylinder issues resolved but too early to tell. The CLE 450 uses the M256 and is relatively reliable.
