2025 GLC350e and Pre-Conditioning/Charge

Fall is here, winter around the corner. Precondition the vehicle for my early morning commutes, which can be up to a 20 percent hit on the battery for a slightly less than a
"toasty warm cabin" in near freezing temperatures.

Looking for opinions or literature on what MB recommends for charging (can't find anything in the owners manual). Does the generic 80% limit that people talk about, really that critical to battery health in 2025? Or does it make sense to charge it to 100% every day as the days get colder? (Canadian winters) I do precondition the vehicle, first thing in the morning.

Trying to balance the spheres of battery longevity, range, and comfort. Intending to keep this vehicle for the long run.

Have the opposite problem in HOT Florida. What I’ve read and watched on YouTube that last 20% is where the degradation of the battery takes place. I have a MB fast charger station about 4 miles away and have used it a few times. Noticed that the last 20% dw drops gradually down to 2kwh at the very end. Guessing the charger doesn’t want to fry the battery. The recommendation is charge about 1 time per month to 100%. The rest of the time somewhere around 25% start a charge and go to 80%. Also there is info on calibration that you might want to think about. Don’t remember the details which might help with longevity!

I'm leasing so I’m not worried about the battery life since in 3 years it will be MB’s problem. There are general and technical YouTube videos you should watch. Also run a AI search with a few different scenarios.

Also what we call the “charger” is not the charger. It just gives juice to the car which is the actual charger. You’ll discover that in doing some research.

I personally charge to 100% pretty much every day. I believe the 20%/80% rule is mostly for all electric vehicles. According to what I've read online for PHEVs, charging to 100% should have little effect on the battery health. I would just minimize the amount of DC Fast charging that you do and try to charge at home with low amperage Level 2 or standard Level 1.
As for pre-conditioning, if you leave the vehicle plugged in, does it not keep the charge at 100% until you unplug and drive? I know that this will eat up a significant portion of the battery when you're leaving work and wanted to put on the heat for a few minutes before you get in.

100% all the time because 1/3 of the battery is not chargeable by plugging in (around 12 kWh) and that portion usually sits around 50% charge, to make the regular hybrid mode work. That 1/3 of the battery is why you can drive somewhat in electric mode even at 0% on the plug-in.

So at 100% charge on the plug-in, the battery is likely actually at:

33% times 1/2 = 16.5%
67% times 1 = 67%

So the total is 83.5%. With a 100% plug-in charge.

I haven't used fast chargers yet even though I could. Use the charger that came with the car so far, though we may get a Level 2 next year.
