Winter Tires

For my Northern friends with the 2025 GLC 350e, what have you decided on for winter tires? My vehicle came with Continental EcoContact Summer Tires so I had to purchase a second set for winter. I decided to go with the new Pirelli Ice Friction on 19" multispoke replica rims. According to the Pirelli website, the Ice Friction has their "Elect" technology, which is designed for EV vehicles. Apparently the tread pattern is quiter than other competitor winter tires and it helps with maximizing electric range. I've been driving for about a week and so far no issues. I don't really notice any difference in noise unless I have both the radio and ventilation off (even then, it's barely noticeable). My estimated range, with 100% battery, has been slightly less than it was in the summer (107km vs 123km). I think this range decrease has more to do with the heat being on instead of AC.
I'm hoping these will perform well when snow comes. I'm used to driving with all season tires so these Ice Frictions should be significantly better. Curious to hear what everyone else has decided on!

I'm currently there too. Looking at a second set of Mercedes alloys plus TPS and some tires. Getting the OE wheels in 18 inches plus non-run-flat Michelin X-Ice Snow tires in the staggered setup will cost about $500 more than the $4500 price for the Mercedes non-staggered 19 inch 235 section run-flat Continental Winter Contact snows. Tending towards the Michelins and OE wheels because of the stagger but not sure.....

Why are you leaning towards a staggered set-up? My understanding is that non-staggered performs better in the snow. I paid $2100 taxes in for everything (sensors and installation included). $4500 seems quite high

That's what the car has in summer tires. I've used X-Ice Snow for a while on our last car and they were great.

Are your wheels Mercedes OE parts? The wheels usually are more than $600 each, then close to $200 each for the pressure sensors. So that's $3200 before rubber and tax.

I could get Chinese-made Costco wheels for a lot less, but I would not trust them.

These are Art Replica wheels. They are a company based out of Laval, Quebec. I've never had any issues with any of my previous Art Replica wheels. The sensors were $35 each I believe.
Sorry, I must have misunderstood you. I thought you were buying a second set of rims and tires. Are you just going to use your staggered summer rims and swap out the rubber? If you're buying a second set of rims, you don't necessarily have to get staggered. That's moreso an esthetic choice for winter and more costly.

Yes, a second set of wheels, sensors and tires.

Run flat tires are extremely hard to mount and dismount and it's very, very bad for any tires, run flat or not.

I have always had winter wheels and tires since 1990 but up to now the winter wheels were steel. This car has no factory steel option and the Chinese Costco steel wheels have a stated load limit that is less than the car's GVW.

So I will get Mercedes OE. The question is whether I want a second set of OE wheels so if one is cosmetically damaged I can replace it with my own wheel, or whether I should pay a bit less for a set 19 inch Mercedes wheels. I decided against aftermarket wheels some time ago, whether made in Canada or China. I trust TÜV certification but the aftermarket stuff at the low end may not be tested to the same standard.

Run flat Contis versus non-run flat Michelins.

Thinking the 19 inch non staggered with run flat Contis might make the most sense even though they'll cost more than twice what you paid.

I'll be picking up a set of these later today.....
(for some reason the image is not showing - they're 19 inch M-B alloys with Conti TS850)

Non-staggered of course. The alternative of the 350e wheels was considerably more expensive, even with a discount from the parts counter. Maybe one day these will be the summer wheels, if they survive the salt.

The image is showing up on my end. Those look nice! The only thing I'd be concerned about is the clearcoat over the machined surface will likely start to bubble due to the salt.

Those look great! Did you reuse the centre caps from the summer rims or did they provide a second set for you? Did you also get new lug nuts or did you use the original ones?

Cool suspension pics! Sadly I already had a close look at the suspension this summer when I had a punctured tire. The air suspension on the rear is cool to see. Did your jack puck hold up okay? Mine got pretty squished after using it to replace the flat tire.

Same lug nuts, same centre caps. I was offered new ones for $25 each (a big discount if you can believe it) but being sticker shocked already, I decided that it's no hardship to switch them. And it was not.

It's got some mild impressions in it after lifting all 4 corners, but is fine!

Hello, could you post your wheel specs?
I got some 18x8 and 18x9 et21 and they don't fit. Would be good to keep track of what 18" mags/wheels work.

Thank you in advance.

That sounds like a nice setup. I just picked up my 25 GLC350e AMG line today and have been searching for weeks for a decent wheel&tire combo for the Michigan winter, without much success so far. Thanks for starting this thread. Where did you get the Art Replica/Pirelli combo?

Welcome to the GLC 350e community! Youre going to love it! Just don't be alarmed that you're not getting the expected 87km electric range during the winter. I'm in southern Ontario and we've been hit pretty hard with snow already. My mileage isn't nearly as good as the summer where I was getting 110-118km on a single charge. We would love to see the spec you decided on. Any pictures?

As for the winter tires and rims, I purchased them through a local tire and rim dealer (Unauthorized Performance) but I'm pretty sure that there are similar places in Michigan or online stores that sell them. So far the Pirellis are doing great with the snow and some ice that we've been getting.

All I have so far is the pics the dealer sent me when it came in. Weather has been rainy and cold here and it's covered in dirt right now so haven't bothered myself. I traded my 14 E350 wagon in on it along with my wife's 23 ID.4 lease. I got the AMG line, AMG wheels, Pinnacle trim, Pano roof, ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, trailer hitch and some other things like mats, wheel locks.

Nice! Pretty much the same spec as me except for the rims (I have the diamond cut multispoke rims) and running boards. You're going to love the Sienna Brown Napa lesther seats. They are well worth it over the standard options. Which interior trim do you have?
Did you do a custom order or was this one that was already at the dealership?

It has the black ash trim. It was an impulse purchase; so yeah, off the lot.

Nice, I have the glossy brown ashwood trim too! I'm impressed that your dealership chose those specs. Usually dealerships order the standard options but it looks like they checked all the boxes for yours. And you probably got it for a better price than if you were to do a custom order.
Hope you end up finding some winter tires soon! The Continental tires that came with my multispoke rims were Summer only. Not sure if you have the same ones on yours. Keep us updated with what you end up getting.

I took a closer look since I assumed I had the summers also. Not so, all seasons, so I’m good. If it’s 2 feet of snow I have my Rubicon Diesel to plow through that.

Question for you or anyone else who has switched: did you have to do anything to learn new TPMS sensors?

I mounted up the same wheel/tire combo I used on our old 2020 300 on the new 2025 350e. Apart from a clear offset change from x253 to x254, they still fit and just cleared the calipers. Center caps are too loose in the winter wheels, but I'll figure that out.

More importantly...on the old car, the TPMS sensors in the winter wheels would register after a few miles/minutes of driving without any interaction on my part - same when I changed back to the stock summer wheels. Did this all three years we had it, no problem.

On the 350e...I'm getting "tire pressure sensors missing" and nothing I can do will make it see them. Anyone else have this issue? Maybe MB changed the sensor frequency, or my TPMS sensors on the old wheels all died after 3.5 years.

No, the new winter wheels with new sensors in them worked right off the bat. Our son's Ford Fiesta has 13 year old pressure sensors and they still work. I think something else is up.

I have a set from 2018 GLC 18" winter tires on rims and they will not fir due to size of caliper, so had to get 19" set.

Thanks for the quick reply! I drove around for another 45 minutes tonight and they still didn't register - have about 3 hours total driving on them so far. Will call the local parts counter and see if the TPMS part numbers changed from x253 to x254.
