Engine noise GLC 200 (M254)

Hello,
I bought the car in September 2025,
and since day one I've been complaining about the engine noise. I know this engine is noisy, but we compared it to another car of the same make and year, and mine is much louder, especially when you put it in first gear and hold the brake. That's when the noise increases significantly. The noise is a ticking sound, which makes it very clear that something is wrong.
Where I bought it, they tell me it sounds different from the other one and that it's louder than normal, but there are no fault codes registered in the ECU and no warning lights are on. Another garage tells me the noise is coming from the camshaft, but there are no fault codes registered, so they can't do anything.
The last garage I visited tells me it's coming from the injectors, and again, there are no fault codes registered in the ECU, so the engine is working correctly.
What do you think? Is anyone else experiencing this?

The noise is coming from the area closest to the passenger compartment. It's a noise like tappets.

When you say garage, do you mean dealer?
I am on my second Mercedes and both of them had a sound like you describe. I have had people tell me they thought I was driving a diesel (when heard from the outside) due to the clacking sound. It turns out that it is just the sound of the fuel injectors. However, from inside the car, at idle, you should not hear anything. Mine is so quiet I have to look at the tach to know if it is running. If yours is abnormally loud at least you have the warranty period to figure out what is causing it.

My former B200 had a sound like that and it was the charcoal canister vapour purge valve. The engine in ours is so quiet it's hard to tell it's running at idle.

I had a situation with my Porsche where it was making rather loud knocking noises (even my neighbor commented on it!). There was a known issue with that engine, but since there were no codes the dealer wanted me to pay $8k for them to remove and open the motor to inspect it to decide whether it would be covered under warranty. So I brought it to another dealer (unannounced) and they rushed their chief mechanic out to take a listen. He said he was confident that the noise was not normal and when they removed the engine they would find an issue, so did not put me on the hook for all the labor. Sure enough, damage was found, and the manufacturer gave be a brand spanking new engine!

So you may want to get some more opinions.

Actually it was the finger-follower issue that caused them to increase the engine warranty to 10 years on 991.1 GT3 cars. Got myself a brand new motor after 9 years of track use! They really stand behind their products.
