Cracking sound & blank screens

A funny thing happened today. I started the car and both screens were blank and there was a cracking sound inside the cabin (like when you touch a jumper cable to a battery). The sound happed about every 30 seconds . Everything else worked and the car drove fine. I was able to turn it off and restart it. I used the key to lock and unlock it, and the problem went away.
any thoughts?

That does sound odd. Sometimes the screens can be laggy when starting the car, but the cracking sound is not enrouraging.

Your screens are bricked. Essentially they are stuck in a loop trying to power on. Bring your vehicle to the dealership for a software update and this will resolve the issue. It may go away on its own but it'll keep reoccuring until the software update is done. This same thing happened to me in the fall. It was really concerning especially not knowing the speed you're driving at.

Happened to me as well - same exact symptoms. To my ear, the cracking or static came from the speakers as the system tried to reboot intermittently. Dealer pegged the problem as a software update that did not complete. They refreshed the software and all has been well the last 3 months.

this is helpful. I was almost going to point out that I couldn’t pinpoint where the cracking sound came from, and it even seemed like it was coming from the rear speakers.

I have had it also. I thought a rock had hit my windshield. Then both screens went blank and rebooted.
