GLC 220D AMG
Tyre pressures glc220 d amg

I have a new 2026 glc 220d amg with 19” wheels on continental tyres.
The recommended pressure on the fuel filler door is 38psi front and back for light load.
Is this a bit high ? Any thoughts ?

Automobile manufacturers have several considerations when recommending tire pressures. Higher pressures improve fuel economy a bit, which they are anxious to bank. Similarly, tire wear improves, reducing warranty claims. With the very low profile tires available these days, damage to rims due to potholes is another important consideration - risk increases at lower pressures. Finally, vehicle loading is another factor, especially with the larger payload possible in an SUV versus a sedan (higher gross weights require higher tire pressures). So to keep things simple the manufacturers are always going to recommend pressures near the high end. The downside to higher tire pressures is ride quality, and to some extent grip levels, though most people don't drive in such a manner that the latter is a real consideration.

I'd suggest experimenting a bit with the pressures and see what achieves the best balance of the above factors given your preferences. I'd categorize your wheels as medium, not low profile (50 series, not the 35 of the AMG 43 with 21" wheels) so the pothole risk is mitigated somewhat. Tires from different manufacturers behave differently, so it's quite possible a few pounds change could be an overall improvement. You can go online to places like tirerack.com and look at user reviews, but of course take everything you read with a grain of salt.

Generally stick to the recommendation. It's a damned heavy car. My GLC 350e is 47 PSI rear, 41 front.

I used to pump the Michelins up to 44 PSI on my cars in slalom/autocross back in the 1970s. Now, that's a normal pressure!
