Yeah the 63 variants are much beefier looking than the 43. I have a GLC43 and I wouldn't compare the looks of the GLC43 to the GLC63 SUV. The grill, fender flares, rear and front bumpers along with the wheels really do make a huge difference. The GLC43 SUV sitting beside a GLC63S coupe would look dull in comparison. I haven't seen a 63 in person but from the pictures, they are so much more aggressive looking than the 43s. I am hoping that the coupe craze of SUV's dies down in a bit and Mercedes reconsiders putting the "S" in the SUV when the RSQ5 and X3M comes out. I think right now Mercedes-AMG knows the GLC63 SUV really doesn't have any competition to warrant the "S" 510hp.

I think the Porsche SUV to have will be the Cayenne Turbo until the updated Macan comes out. The new Cayenne with its active roll stabilization and four wheel steering is likely to deliver sports-car handling.
the one I drove had sports plus and handled extremely well. The Macan doesn’t suit me well for what my expectations are. I’d prefer the more muscle car type right now.

I like the 63 grill as well. I wasn't aware there was going to be an RSQ5 but I think they aren't really that nice looking compared to the GLC.

New Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S 2017 review

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mercede...rce=newsletter

Extract =
Turn the key and there’s no mistaking this GLC for one of the humble diesels, however. Our car had the optional (£1,000) sports exhaust fitted, bursting into life with a bellowing V8 roar characteristic of every current 63 model in the Mercedes range. Even the smallest blip of the throttle is enough to bounce echoes off nearby buildings, while placing your right foot flat on the floor produces a noise more akin to a hurricane at full chat.

Past AMGs had a more than a little in common with old-school American muscle cars, possessing a brutish nature that meant they were more accomplished in a straight line than they were through a series of tight bends. And while modern models are much improved, their ability to rip rubber remains intact. Leave the traction and stability systems off and the GLC will slip and slide out of low speed corners, spinning its tyres away from rolling T-junctions.

However, with the latest 4MATIC+ system, the GLC offers incredible traction over smooth tarmac. Our German test route offered little in the way of broken or potholed roads, but the huge 20-inch wheels followed ruts and tramlined over poorer surfaces. The big rims are standard on S models, and, along with the firm suspension, are likely to make for a slightly fidgety ride back in the UK.

The steering is super sharp, though, offering almost twitchy feedback around the straight-ahead. The Macan feels more malleable, more agile, though the Merc’s tight body control suitably belies its size. The nine-speed dual-clutch gearbox rattles through the first few (admittedly short) ratios, but allows the GLC to settle into an impressively sedate cruise. Try to change down through multiple cogs too quickly and it’ll simply refuse, however.

Of course, in transition from four-cylinder diesel to AMG V8, the GLC has lost none of its practicality. The cabin still offers plenty of room for adults, while the 550-litre boot shames the Macan’s 500-litre load bay.

In just a few weeks we’ll be driving the flagship Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio in the Middle East. It should prove a more comparable match for the GLC – with an identical power output and similarly spacious cabin. Jaguar’s hotly-rumoured F-Pace SVR should arrive next year, too, with up to 575bhp from a supercharged 5.0-litre V8.

Key specs
Price: £75,670
Engine: 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol
Power/torque: 503bhp/700Nm
Transmission: Nine-speed auto, four-wheel drive
0-62mph: 3.8 seconds
Top speed: 174mph
Fuel economy/CO2: 26.4mpg, 244g/km

I wonder when it will reach Oz........

I went and looked at the guilia quadifoglio today and a plain Stelvio. It took all my restraint not to buy the guilia quadrifoglio, may go back, to wait for a Stelvio. Loaded Stelvio 79k est and th dealer said they’d take 2-2500 off once they know the official pricing. They were basing their estimates based on guilia numbers plus 2k for Stelvio. I may bag out of the GLC for a Stelvio. It set the record around the ring for an suv.

I also test test drove a Levante s while I was there and it was really nice and they are giving them away for tissue minus 6500 so about 17000 off sticker

Yes yours is Jan and his is Feb.

My dealer still has no allocation. Really frustrated. Sent a Fedex to the CEO of Mercedes USA with my concerns.

GLC63 Allocation and 2018 or 2019

Stealth Pilot, Many thanks for your updates and communication with MB USA

I am in the same boat as you with a small dealer still waiting for allocation.

Although i am excited about the new GLC63 arrival. I am unhappy about several issues
1- The dealer is very nice but is just left in the dark on a $75K+ purchase so the customer gets no transparency. Has MB heard of the Customer Experience revolution that customers expect?
2- I am extremely unhappy we can not get the same SUV "S" version as rest of world. (I spoke to AMG CEO at the Frankfurt Motor Show and he is NOT happy about MB USA decision on no S version of the SUV.)
my hunch is that an MB MBA got to much power in the decision or a larger dealer association pushed back on stocking one extra AMG model.
3- I am concerned about taking delivery of a 2018 model post April. My hope is given the production delay that MB USA decides to categorize GLC63's as a 2019 model.
4- The lack of customizable exterior colors due to Breman Factory not having custom color ability and the boring interior color choices are not up to Porsche's customization. (Yes I would spend up to $6K to get a custom exterior color choice).
MB USA Interior color choice customization is possible but adds a $2500 setup charge. Excellent passionate person running this program at MB USA.

Please let us know how your discussion turns out with MB USA

I should have pushed on this 2019 model designation issue in my letter. I did bring up the lack of customization and also the incredibly slow process for interior customization (12 weeks on top of whatever build date you eventually receive).

Im mostly miffed at the lack of a S model SUV. I'm trying to like the coupe but I'm struggling. I also have my couch sized bullmastiff that likes riding in the hatch area. She may not fit in the back of the coupe.

It seems as the Midwest region did not get many allocations of the GLC63. I voiced my concern about picking up a MY18 in April, so as long as my discount is honored, I won't mind too much about having to wait longer for what could be a 2019 then.

The SUV will still be the fastest midsize SUV after the Coupe. The Stelvio may be quicker 0-60 but not above that.

GLC63M3 were you able to secure a good discount in Chicago? I wasn’t able to and still do not have a firm build date other than dealer telling me Jan.

I see no point in getting the 2018s, leftovers will have to be heavily discounted to move.

My dealer has only 1 allotted, and that’s me. There are only 24 in the Central Region in the production queue in the system. So I do not believe there will be leftovers, nor will there be meaningful discounting. Listen, I m not happy about the timing, but I remain bullish on this model. The numbers are not large, so there will be demand, given it’s the only V8 in the segment. I’m still hopeful for a March delivery.

I agree, beyond the dog aspect, the coupe really cuts down on tall cargo as well, which I carry frequently.

479hp doesnt carry the same weight as 500/600 or even 700 hp trucks now, imo.
