GLC63S Road Test Press Reviews - EVO, Top Gear, Autocar, Auto Express
The reviews are favorable. US journalists love it. European journalists love the engine although some seem to prefer the more refined suspension of the Macan. But reading these makes me think the GLC is the better car without doubt.

Nice. Sucks the suspension is being described as relatively stiff. A shaky stiff suspension does not correlate to a better handling car. At least Porsche understands this. Having said that I would still lean towards the GLC63. Simply because it has a V8.
I'm really happy with my '18 Audi SQ5. In about 2-3 years I will consider the GLC63 for sure.

I like the SQ5 too. And the Magma Red quilted leather is fantastic. The RSQ7 will be worth keeping an eye out for too. The one thing which is a dealbreaker for me with the Q5 line though is the plastic dash with the sharp edges. They really should have wrapped that in leather or leatherette like in the Q7. It makes a huge difference since you are staring at the dash the whole time. I have a feeling Audi is the last of the German automakers to address this. I'm pretty sure the RSQ5 will have the same issue, since Audi also left the plastic dash in the RS7. It's fine for an entry level 2.0 Q5, but when you're selling a $100k RS model this won't fly.

I'd take what these reviews say about the ride with a grain of salt. I remember looking at them all when looking up the C43/GLC43 and they were super critical of those too when everyone else was praising the cars instead, so I wouldn't go all in on what they say about the 63 models. Wait for Motor Trend and Caranddriver first to see what the other side says.

Just added the EVO review. Very consistent with the others. Can't wait to see what C&D and Motortrend say.
I'm a bit surprised it's not more positive I personally find the Macan Turbo somewhat underwhelming in terms of handling.

For the German speakers. This review is very positive. He literally tips his hat to the engineers at the end of the video.

Pretty short article, so I guess a more comprehensive review will be showing up pretty soon. I didn't see any complaints about the suspension from them, but we'll have to wait until they do a first drive review. Still checking for Car and Driver and Automobile Mag to post their reviews.

The car magazine review is very positive. Handling is in between limo and sports car which is what you want. Smooth, but can hold the road well.
Motoring Australia is also saying the ride quality is quite good and less harsh than other AMG products.

Here's another one.
https://www.wheelsmag.com.au/reviews...lc-63-s-review
I get the impression a lot of these magazines say it feels heavy and doesn't corner well. but I suspect a lot of this is because they are driving on snow tires, in cold temperature on a rainy day. Driving this car in the US on Michelin PS4S tires would lead to a very different review.
Mercedes really messed up organizing a press drive in Germany in the winter. They should have done this in Spain or Italy.

Yeah I noticed they're all saying that the V8 feels heavy in the front, which I find interesting because I never heard those complains with the C63 or C63s, which are lighter cars and would therefore presumably make the front end weight of the V8 even more prominent. The comments actually remind me of Autogefuehl's review of the GLC43, with the commentator Thomas saying that sometimes the V8 models are too much on the street and feel a lot heavier in the front because of the additional engine weight. Looks like these reviews are echoing what he's saying. I think you're right about the tires, though maybe there is a calibration issue as that technically shouldn't even be an issue then either.

The review of the suspension concerns me too. I'm hoping it's exaggerated since I have yet to drive a Mercedes that was too stiff.
I've noticed people talk about this with all cars. You read reviews for the Cayenne Turbo and people say the same thing - nose feels heavier compared with the Cayenne S. Personally it doesn't bother me. While it may be true, I have always felt that cars with bigger engines, wider tires, and a track tuned active suspension can drive faster than the regular models in both straights and corners.
Personally, coming from driving 1.0-2.0L hatchbacks in Europe to driving a C230, C300, ML320, Grand Cherokee Laredo and now an E350, I think a GLC43 for me is more than enough since I'm used to having lower power cars. While I love V8s, the extra power won't be very usable for me and the V6 is somewhat better for fuel economy, which I'm personally conscious of. The only real niggles I have with the GLC43 is that it doesn't have the adaptable 4Matic+ (for New England snowfalls) or the facelift interior or the AMG steering wheels, but those are super minor and none are dealbreakers alone or collectively. So when I hopefully get enough money to pull the trigger by the end of the year, I'll be ordering the 43 rather than 63.
For you though (judging by your previous car history) the GLC63 is right up your alley. I'm not a fan of the coupe though as I think the regular SUV in that blue with the black 21" wheels is absolutely gorgeous and more practical, but to each their own.

I might have to check out the 2nd row leg room in the Macan again. My experience trying to buy a car from Mercedes has not been a good one so far. This article has me re-thinking my order.

That's how I remember it too. Too bad. But if looking among $100K cars is my biggest problem I am faced with today, it should be a great day.
