Quote: hi I just ordered my GLC43 in Australia when I took the car for a test drive back in fab that test car didn't have the AMG exhaust on to (with the exhaust button installed) I asked the guy at the time and he didn't really know anything about it. Have you got your car yet and has it got the exhaust button installed in the cabin?
I don't know about Australia but in the US AMG Sport Exhaust System is standard, AMG Performance Exhaust System is optional on 43 and 63
Looking at the MB Australian website the AMG Performance Exhaust System is optional as a package with carbon fiber exterior mirror housing for the 63 but not proposed for the 43 (just like in Europe)

Hi Thanks

That really sucks I might have to look in to a aftermarket exhaust do you know if you can buy the AMG Performance Exhaust System and get it fitted?

My understanding is that the PE can't be bought and fitted afterwards due to coding and wiring. Someone in the C43 forum and the AMG Private Lounge asked and the Mod in the PL confirmed it was basically NO. I researched because I wanted it now too.

Now, I'm sure for the right price it could be done, but not worth it. Check out AWE or some other aftermarket vendor. Bummer.

I am sure you can get the Performance Exhaust but like said Chrisk03 the coding and wiring for the valve is going to be an issue .
Best way is going to a valved aftermarket one .

I have 2018 AMG GTC. The sport exhaust sounds sick. Pops and cracks like crazy down shifting.

Not sure if this helps on GLC43 but my wife has an E43 and I can tell you the stock GLC43 exhaust is much louder then her stock E43. We got the GLC as a loaner while her car gets serviced and I thoiught it had sport exhaust it was so much louder than her E43. Neither cars had the sport exhaust button though.

Could also be that the E43 is insulated better in cabin? Not sure.

Quote: Where does it say it's an option on the 18 GLC43?
~ Apparently this wasn't an option on my early custom ordered '18 glc43 (because I inquired) but then became available later in the model year? I guessing this... for I have seen some '18 glc43 showing this optional center console button.

The PE (Code U78) was in the DOG (Dealer Order Guide) last year and the PE has been an option since 17, I believe. I ordered my GLC43 in Sept of 2017 and it WAS available, but I passed at the time thinking I could just add later like my prior BMW...no dice. That said, even the standard Sport Exhaust sounds pretty good, I would just like a little more sound, personally. Apparently, additional cracks/pops can be "coded" in by a few aftermarket places, but not sure on cost. The button on the center console that comes with the optional PE allows you to control the exhaust valves.

I ordered my 2018 GLC43 in September 2017 and selected the performance package that came with 21" wheels and perfornance exhaust...glad I did since it does make a difference. Can turn it on whenever I want - great sound in Sport mode.

PE is a must have. Will definitely turn heads with puzzled looks at the next light.

Depends where you live. I’m happy if I can get the car to make downshift gurgle noises with brisk braking. It’s hard to get it to make the upshift pops before hitting the speed limit+10mph or getting stuck behind a CRV, RAV4, Prius, RX, some other ugly Lexus or some other slow *** Acura SUV/CRV on a 50mph road or merging lane onto the freeway or left lane on the freeway. Every single f*ucking day.

Yep, there they are. As you can see from the top pic, the pipes go 2-in-1 to the resonator. The dual pipes from the engine are 2.25 and the single pipe from rear of the resonator is 3in. This is why the standard exhaust with just resonator delete is so loud. Also, I think the stock downpipes are like 2.5 or 2.25. The aftermarket downpipes are 3in in diameter. I can't wait to install my downpipes.

Glc 43 standard exhaust
Hi all,

I have a glc 43 standard exhaust. I never experienced pops and bangs. Have you got the same experience?

thank you!

I got bangs. Sport exhaust is best option ever. Plus downpipes doesn't hurt .

Thanks for the video Bob. Sounds great. So are the extra pops (I have the sports exhaust, but not the tune) from the Renntech tune or because the tune opens the exhaust all the way? Can you still drive in a quieter mode if you have the tune? Thanks.

The tune definitely made more (lots) pops when the exhaust is open. I don't think the tune changes the exhaust valving at all, but way more crackles. With the exhaust closed and driving in comfort mode it doesn't really pop. I was worried about the effect on comfort mode but it is like no change at all to the drive or sound which is great in my opinion. My wife doesn't really drive this car much, but when she does, she stays in comfort mode. She didn't notice any difference.

Did you notice much difference in the performance after the tune? Acceleration? Smoother gear shifts? I am thinking about getting it, it's just a little pricey. I read somewhere that this is the one to get. Thanks for you time.

I go to the dragstrip a lot and I use dragy. Absolute gains in power. I think the tune is 40hp and you will notice it for sure. No difference in shifting, but the tune does take the 'lag' out of the gas pedal which is awesome. If you ever stepped on the gas and noticed the delay, that is gone. Yes it is expensive and not as aggressive as a lot of the tunes you will see here, but my dealer does a ton of performance work, they are awesome, there are renntech banners all over the showroom, etc. I'll pay a little extra for that. I would just get it from a dealer that is behind their performance work. Just my opinion, but I didn't want the cheapest most aggressive tune. One more thing, I did have to sign a warranty void for the ecu which I think is fare. That's where the tune lives so if it gets jacked up it's on me. No guarantees and you can read the many debates on this here, but I feel best with rennteech and my dealer if I have a problem. Probably have 20k miles on the car with the tune installed. Hope that helps. I have a channel with a bunch of drag videos and some other stuff on my car if you are interested... Good luck.

Can you prove this ? I have the 2017 C43 w/ amg exhaust and test drove the 2020 GLC43 w/ amg exhaust and didn’t notice a difference ? Btw the AMG exhaust is a must have for any newbies on this forum. I test drove the Porsche Macan GTS w/ their sports exhaust and it’s so tame compared to what AMG gives us. Mercedes AMG for the win !

QUOTE=DameMD;7177718]It's also an option on the 18 GLC43. I think my GLC43 is louder than a standard c43 exhaust. Not sure if it's because of the extra heft/weight. I wish we had the option, as I would have definitely had that as one of the main things to get on this truck.[/QUOTE]

Hey Bob, is the Emotion Start any louder or burblier with the tune?

Not really. The tune mostly just made it louder in sport and sport+ mode. The kids notice everything and they never noticed. When I got the downpipes they noticed right away.
