First Oil Change
Just a click over 5000 Miles and I decided to change the oil.
Really a pretty easy process, remove belly pan (8mm socket), remove drain plug (I think a 12mm wrench), drain oil. Remove engine cover (pull back center duct) gently lift cover up and off. remove oil filter housing, replace oil filter and re-install. (anyone know what size wrench to use with the filter housing?) Replace crush washer on the drain plug, install and tighten. Add 6.9 quarts of oil. I like the fact that removing the oil filter causes no mess...
Used Amsoil European spec synthetic 0W-40.

I performed the first oil change on the C450 at about 6K miles. I'll do the GLC43 at 5-6k. After that initial change they will go to factory 10k intervals. I've used Mobile 1 synth for a long time and am comfortable with the long intervals in general, but not for the initial oil change after break-in.

I'm with Brew1 on the first oil change at 5,000 miles. I have been driving a long time (decades. . . ) and if there is one fact I have learned it is that "Oil is always cheaper than engines."

It is always smart to do your first oil change prior to the recommended intervals. Even though there are stringent cleanliness requirements on engine components, you have valves creating a permanent seat, rings getting broke in etc. As a result, you will have wear metals. The reality is that a good filter won't catch everything. I used to run oil analysis on following my second oil change to have a baseline to compare against, in the event that I had an engine problem in the future. The major company that I retired from used to perform oil analysis on every engine following dyno test, just to make sure things were acceptable.

I think it depends who you ask. The euro's tend to go about 10K. Some people even suggest the first change at 1K (I think that's exaggerated), and then people also argue that 10K is beyond what the oil is rated at. I'm no expert, I wouldn't disagree with the first change at 5K.. but I don't think every 5K is really necessary either. I'd do the first a bit early, and then I would probably resume the maintenance schedule outlined by MB.
