I've been complaining about this issue with the dealership where I purchased the vehicle but nothings been done to it. It's getting worse now but I changed my front tires to a different brand and so far I haven't feel the crabbing yet. My previous tire is Continental 21" and have to changed after only 15,600 miles. I replaced it with Pirelli P-Zero tires.

Here in Australia, RHD, no knowledge of new knuckles for 350d, 43 or 63 models.
Tyre choice, All Season Tyres general solution, with Winter tyres working, but loose out on performance with these. Increase tyre pressures to 38-40psi.
So answer is NO ! Fix yet…..

Yes, as of the crabbing issues never came back after I changed my front tires. I just don't know when it's cold because the crabbing issues only occurred during the rain/cold season.

For the GLC 43 series there is a factory/ warranty - perhaps case by case now (?); fix for the grabbing issue, whereby they replace the upper lower knuckle and a few other bits I think. This is old news though!?

For those of us who have the 63 editions, there is no fix other than runner winter or all season tires lol.

Has this resolved the issue and are your car GLC 43? I got 8000kms on the Continentals before crabbing became unbearable and heard that Michelin Pilot Sports 4 (non run flats) are the go

Hi, whats the specs on your tires please, I have 2021 GLC 43 with factory fitted tyres and done 12000km and the crabbing has been painful from about 5000kms, tyres are bald as. Fighting with dealer but they're usual line is its a "performance characteristic".

I have replaced the factory 21” ContisportContact 5p to Dunlop Sport Maxx, it’s been over 5000kms since the new tyres kicked in, no more crabbing from the usual location (which is just my driveway). Now just wait and see how them last, as the factory Conti only last about 15000kms and super expensive to replace them here in New Zealand.

I have a LHD USDM 2020 GLC 43. I bought it used with about 10000 miles on it, with OEM 21 inch wheels.. Had oem Dunlop on rear, some no name "lionhart" tires on front. I changed all 4 to oem contisport contact. Now I get severe crabbing when turning my car at full lock in mornings. Its not even cold here in San Diego, maybe 50 degrees at lowest. I may try to switch to Michelin Pilot Sport 4s later on. I see only six tire choices on Tire Rack for the 21" wheels..

car been crabbing like crazy with factory fitted mps 4s and its all gone after installing dws 06+ , handles just fine, good wet and some snow performance, 0 crabbing at any temp, ride quality is much better and significantly more quiet. i know they cant handle track duty like real uhp summer tires but for daily all season driving in mild climate its a great upgrade. wish they could offer some pre build options on tires , most of the ppl would be much more happy.

I am looking at changing to an all season tyre - are you aware if all season tyres are generally more uncomfortable than a summer tyre? I’ve also read that all season tyres are a bit of overkill / not required in Australia’s weather, so just wary I’m getting a tyre specifically to address scrubbing but getting the drawbacks on an all season such as performance and possible comfort etc? In the end, the car is used for daily town commute so performance wouldn’t be the highest on the list anyway.

I was recommended the Pirelli Scorpion Verde all season just to address the crabbing so I’m trying to do more research on these in terms of comfort levels with these. I would have gone with a Michelin Pilot Sport 4S or Pilot Sport SUV as I was told those would be most comfortable but from what I’ve read the Pilot Sport 4S does have the crabbing issue and I would think the Sport SUV tyres would too.

Your inputs would be be greatly appreciated especially from someone in the same city! TIA

I put on dws 06+ on my wife's glc63 and cant be happier driving year round in Vanvouver. We dont have scorching hot summers but it was allright with those days @ +30c outside. World better daily than factory installed ps4, 0 crabbing, more quiet, way more comfortable etc. Yes, i cant attack corners at true summer tires speeds but im truly impressed with the grip and driveability of those all seasons.

hi Serge81, thanks for the inputs on this but unfortunately we don’t have the continental DWS 06+ in Australia. We actually have a pretty limited set of all weather tyres especially for the glc63 21 wheels.

sounds like all weather tyres do address the crabbing but do also want to get tyres that have good comfort and less road noise as these are my main priorities.

Hi, sorry for my delay.
Yes choice of tyres in Oz very limited. My GLC’s run 20 inch rims with wife’s Coupe staggered set up.
Her car originally came with Michelin Latitude 3 summer tyres, Not run flats, and she has air suspension.
Mine has 20 inch all around and came with runflats - MB changed them for Goodyear All Season run flats, mud & snow type.
They are a harder ride and I have steel springs, so not much give.
We run around 36-38psi all round, cold (add 4 psi when hot) and have tyres filled with nitrogen at Costco to limit air loss and reduce heat build up in rubber.
Goodyears have been excellent handling when new and minimal drop off as they age, BUT towards the end they start to shred, like fish scales, Goodyear not fussed and said ‘normal’ !
Tried to buy Michelin new all season tyre but they will not import to Oz, state no demand, REALLY !! From OS reviews I believe they would be excellent.
So I cannot recommend a 21 inch tyre, do you have steel or air suspension ?
I am still considering buying an original or third party emergency rim/tyre setup, all around $1000. And getting normal summer tyres ? Our GLC’s had the knuckle change that did help, as too increasing tyre PSI and tyre rotation, for staggered, side to side.
I had thought od changing shockers and spring rating for my unit, but not sure what is avail and guess cost will be $$$$. Given my wheels are approaching 8 years I am overall very happy with the car, headlight leaking fixed, sunroof guide rail and broken wheel guide replaced. Very happy with ERIC extended Manuf warranty policy, great support from them and the Geelong MB Dealer.

sounds like you’ve tried many things around the the car and the crabbing so it’s great you’re on top of it.

I have called up a number of tyre shops in Melbourne and most have just given me a generic recommendation of pirelli p zeros or Michelin pilot sport suv. Only one shop did recommend the pirelli scorpion verde all season tyre to address the cranking and he did mention he’s had good customer feedback on these. So I am leaning towards those especially given quite a few have recommended them here on the forum too.

Yes agree with your logic. I did at one stage visit a number of Dealers and inspect what tyres were being fitted when manuf and sent to Oz. Saw some different models that started to trickle into Oz. New GLC have an emergency spare. Nor sure re 63 series. So new tyres generally summer and non run flats to give better ride comfort now fitted to GLC 300 series.Vredestein tyres in UK also getting good reviews, but not imported into Oz. The OEM contisportcontact 5s in 21" are absolutely horrible. They crab like no tomorrow and barely even last 10k if that for tread life. Will definitely be switching out to a different brand. My wife mainly drives the 43 so it seems like a waste to drop 2000 on Michelin PIlot Sport 4S? Any other recommendations for 255/40/21 and 285/35/21 for a weekend car that is not driven aggressively? Thank you.

From what I’ve been reading it seems like the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S does crab too. I would have preferred to get this tyre or the Pilot Sport 4 SUV as they are both highly regarded but I won’t be taking chances with the crabbing especially during the colder months.

As per the thread, looks like the best option to minimise the crabbing would be an all season tyre. Haven’t yet read of anyone getting an all season tyre and still having the crabbing issue.

Good luck with it, I’m likely to pull the trigger on a set of Pirelli Scorion Verde all season tyres as these are the best bet in my region as there are very limited all season choices here in Australia especially for 21 inch wheels.

Hi there - I purchased all weather Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres (Maserati oem spec) for my 21s for my GLC63 and they are going well so far. Quiet and comfortable. No crabbing so far, but yet to hit the colder climate as it’s summer here in Australia. I got my wheels aligned too, I’ve read here on the forums that some people saying that it does make a difference with the crabbing.

Hi, I did not replace with all season tires. Honestly I would rather just deal with the crabbing then change to tires that do not perform as well (going from summer to all season). If anything, I will change out to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S when the time comes to replace them. I actually would prefer to have the OEM 20 inch wheels/tires if possible. More choices for tires and I like the look better.
