2019 GLC 43 special order questions
Hello, long time lurker, finally registered
I was going to do a special order for GLC 43 but a few dealers told me it is out of production until fall and they will only take pre-order on 2020 model. Any way for me to know if 2019 is really out of production now? My wife actually likes how pre-2020 model looks like and I do not think we have the patience to wait till fall. And the new grill on 2020 makes it look like GLC 300.
And one dealer told me it will take 90 days to deliver the car while another one said it might be 6 months, especially for the new year model. I saw on this forum some people got it in less than 7 weeks. What would be a realistic expectation?
Finally, to get ambient lights, do I need to purchase LED door sill package? Not sure why they called it like that but based on a description of the build tool on the website, it adds ambient lights as well.
I emailed 6 dealers in Florida, and 3 of them right off the bat told me they could get me 10% off MSRP - was pretty surprised by that as I did not see any current MB incentives.
Thanks!

I don't know if the order window is closed for 2019 so I can't really help you there.
What I can help you with is the wait time. Any time frame of delivery is estimated. I ordered a 2019 May of last year, the vehicle arrived to the US in August, and it was held up at the port of entry until December. I would just keep in mind that it'll take 6 months to receive and any sooner would be a bonus.
As far as finding a 2019 if the order window is closed, you may just have to search nationally.

I ordered mine last year June 1 when they started to take custom order and got the car November 28 (the car was built second week of July, arrived in US 4th week of August and was stuck at delivery center for 3 weeks )
I don't know what is the new grill to look like but you should be able to swap the grill from the GLC63 for few hundred $
About the ambient lights, It's part of the LED door sill package.
I am sure they can give you 10% on a 2019 , probably even more !

looks like quite a lot of people getting 15-16% off GLC 300 off the lot. But is it realistic to expect this sort of discount for 2020 special order GLC 43 AMG? Best I could get is 10.5%, should I look harder? Dealer told me best case scenario, I will get it in late Nov-Dec but I cannot even find pictures of GLC 43

2019 is out of the question, production is ended..and my wife wants only beige interior and there are only 2 2019 GLC 43 in the entire US with a beige interior with options we do not care about

I just was really surprised when I emailed 6 dealers and 3 of them gave me 10% off the right of the bat without negotiations and making me jump through hoops. So I got a little suspicious

Hell, give it a shot at 16% and see where it goes...worst they can do is say "no" and then you might end up at still better than 10-12%. Plus, I bought about a year and a half ago and this is a competitive space with overall car sales declining (and higher int rates), so shoot for the moon.

Why don't you get one of the 2019 with beige int left . Most of people don't care much for beige and it's probably hard to sale . Take 16% off the MSRP and call them with your price . After all the option you don't care may come free and you don't have to wait !

got another offer for 10.5% and then emailed local dealer who does not normally negotiate (Autonation no haggle price crap) but their manager just emailed me offering 11%. Really surprised as I had to work pretty hard to get 13% on my scat pack and that was with a big factory rebate from FCA.

I negotiated a 12% off MSRP with the sales person , I asked them a contract but they say not need .
When the car arrived , the manager came and told me that he was not aware of a discount that big and they know that you have been waiting for 6 month and you have this beautiful car waiting sitting in the front of you .
At the end of the day I was able to get 9.5% off but not what I was expecting .
Make sure you have a written contract with them , if they refuse to do it go to the next one !

One think you have to be careful with negotiating on a custom order and this happen to me last year .

I bet if you give them a check they won't cash it ,same for credit card deposit . The reason they do that is make you think you got the deal and you stop shopping around !
Get a written contract

There is no such thing as "too loaded" for these cars. Vehicle shipping coast to coast will run about $900. I'd make a very aggressive offer and see if they bite. Either that or convince your wife that beige is only appropriate for geriatrics and to find another acceptable interior color.

put a deposit down with a local dealer who commited to give me 11% off msrp. Kinda surprised as they do not normally discount much but maybe they felt in my voice that I would not mind driving 100 miles to get what I want. Took lanoipat's advise and got manager's signature to honor the discount once the car arrives.
Official ordering is not open yet but we used 2019 options to estimate 2020 which I am fine as long as I get this discount.
Someone was picking up at the same time GT 4 63s with matte blue paint - wow what a car. Maybe one day

That's awesome...I'm supposed to meet locally with a dealer today so we shall see.

Trade-in should be also excluded from this and honestly, you will be better off selling your car to carmax or carvana.
Taxes and fees are going to be the same.
Web-sites like truecar and edmunds play these games as well now and to me, it feels like they are on a dealer side and just make lazy people feel better.
There is no excuse these days not to email 10-15 dealers around you and have them compete for your business. Do not even go to a dealership before you have a good offer via email or text, you will be wasting time. Dealers who do not answer via email or text - it is their problem, just move on and negotiate with dealers who use YOUR preferred way of communications.
Other people like to look at Out of the door price (OTD) but then it is much more difficult to compare offers from various dealers because of factors above.
In my case, I emailed ~14 dealers in Florida (all dealers have a contact us form on their sites). 5 of them told me they would never give a discount on special orders - ah, okay, bad for them. 1 dealer told me they would never discount any AMG models - ah, okay, bad for them. 5 ignored my email request or sent me an auto-rely to my very detailed message where I outline exactly what I wanted, my timeline, options and such (you have to let them feel you are serious).
Finally, 3 dealers answered my email straight to the point. Gave me % and I started to negotiate with them. Once I got the best offer from 100 miles from me, I sent emails again to our local dealers (we have 3) and asked them to beat. 2 said no and 1 said yes.
I felt I could do a bit better but in the end of day it is how you feel about the deal. Getting 11% off a special order car built for you, and the car has not released yet is a very good deal and I feel good about it
I used the same strategy when I got a car for myself and it worked pretty well too.
This was also part of the game for me to get the best offer
Hope it helps!
