Tire issue or what!
Not sure if anyone else experienced this with their GLC43 with 20" all season runflats? But would like to hear what you might think it is.
Having driven about 1800 mi from Canada to Florida, the outside temperature rising to high 80's, and tire pressure in the high 30's to 40 psi, I got this continuous "wuumpT" sound timed to tire rotation rather than engine. At the sound end came the "T" sound more solid not unlike metal hitting something. At first I thought it was from the engine, but seemed more related to tire revolution, as I changed gearing. The noise started faint at first but soon became louder and very present in the cockpit. It also sounded like it came from the front. It lasted about 20-30 minutes and left as quickly as it started. It came back again but this time for a shorter period. I did stop to check the tires if it picked up something and also at a pit stop to let the tires cool along with my anxiety. Tires were free of debris. It didn't reoccur on the way home to Canada but then again I started in hot country moving toward colder weather.
I checked with M-B but they said to come back when it happens again. 3 months later no reoccurance. However my thoughts are the tires were hot (however well below tolerances).
Anyone have any thoughts on this subject, I would greatly appreciate your input?
