Those exhaust crackles and pops are in violation of new European exhaust noise regulation. I took the 2020 GLC63 on a test drive and in 2nd and 3rd gear at 4000-5000rpm, there were no crackles or pops when letting off the gas. It’s now a low rumbling/gurgling noise.

The 2020 v8 exhaust is noticeably less violent than the 2019 gt43 inline six.

Personally, I think it’s ok for exhaust not to scream and bang. It’s an end of an era.

Did you have it in Sport+ or Race mode? Otherwise, no pops and crackles. They are there in my 2020 GLC63s coupe.

i drove a 2019 and 2020 GLC63s back to back before deciding to go with the 2020. Other than for “clunking” sound when upshifting in the 2019 model, I didn’t notice much difference in terms of the engine sound between the two model years. Certainly not one that make the 63s sound less than the inline 6 in the 43.

I was in sport+ mode. What’s the right technique to get cracks and pops in the 2020 models?

Throttle needs to be depressed a bit more with a more sudden lift off. I’ll try to get an audio recording of my car if I can upload it. It’s easier in race mode. But I haven’t used race mode much since I’m still in the break in period.

How was the cold start? Here is my 2019 just revving up to 2,000 RPM.
