Parking Brake Inconsistency

I am having some very inconsistent results with my 2017 GLC43 and the automatic disengaging of the parking brake. I'm sure I've tried all sorts of different combinations when stopping and leaving the vehicle but the disengagement of the parking brake is leaving me scratching my head. I'd say the vast majority of times I need to touch the gas pedal (or manually disengage with the switch) but occasionally, it disengages as soon as I put it in drive or reverse. Anyone have any thoughts? It seems odd to me that from a safety perspective, it requires you to touch the gas pedal to disengage it rather than just putting the vehicle into gear with a foot on the brake pedal.

According to the manual

Releasing automatically
Your vehicle's electric parking brake is auto- matically released if all of the following condi- tions are met:
The seat belt has been fastened
The engine is running
The transmission is in position D or R and
you accelerate
or
you shift the transmission position from P to position D or R, you will need to accelerate more on steeper gradients
If the transmission is in position R, the tailgate must be closed.
If your seat belt is not fastened, the following conditions must be fulfilled to automatically release the electric parking brake:
The driver's door is closed
You have shifted out of transmission position
P or you have previously driven faster than
2 mph (3 km/h).
Ensure that you do not depress the accelerator pedal unintentionally. Otherwise, the parking brake will be released and the vehicle will start to move.

if you just keep your foot on the brake, I assume it thinks your not going anywhere, so it won’t release until you actually want to move.?

Yup, I've checked the manual to see what it says and can't get over how overly complicated it is. So many variables but I've tried to keep it consistent with putting the vehicle in park before turning off or undoing seat belt. When departing, I always have foot on the brake to put it in gear (think this is required but haven't tried to put in gear without the brake applied) and have the seat belt on before putting it in gear. Just can't seem to figure out what, if any variable I'm changing for it to act differently that small percentage of times.

How many this happen to you ? Was your car in unstable condition (snow or ice) ?

Yes, I do live in winter conditions but even when I park in my heated garage, I get the same results. In fact, I would say that the brake will automatically disengage after shifting into gear more often when outside than in the garage. So, I doubt the road conditions where parked have anything to do with it.

Interested to hear more from ParadigmDawg. It sounds to me like your brake operates without you even noticing it. Does yours disengage automatically upon shifting into gear every time?

I have never noticed anything regarding my parking brake but I will try to pay more attention next time I'm in it. I know that when I am in the Audi, I put it in gear and the PB is engaged until I hit the accelerator. In the GLC, it either disengages as soon as I am in gear or it is just really smooth and subtle.
