New to M-B - New GLC 63 Observations

I've had my new GLC 63 for exactly 1 week now today. I ordered it back on New Year's Eve and waited patiently for it to arrive just before the whole world shut down. I traded my 2017 Audi S6 in for this, my 3rd Audi, so most of my observations come from that perspective.

The Highs:
- the exhaust sound is awesome... that alone is worth the price of admission... I've gotten looks and thumbs-up from this alone
- the interior materials are for the most part top shelf as I have become accustomed to with Audi as well
- fit and finish is great-- no complaints in that department
- nice tight, controlled ride with little to no body roll and good steering feedback
- nice that the cup holders can be totally removed- I've never liked cup holders in cars and don't allow drinking in my vehicle

The Not-so Highs:
- the starter-and-battery-killing eco start/stop comes on every time you start the car. One wonderful thing about the S6 was when you push that button to turn off the stupid "eco" start/stop, it stays off for the life of the car unless you turn it back on. I wish the GLC would be the same.
- the audible lock uses the horn like a GM car instead of a chirp???
- Android Auto doesn't take up the whole screen-- it's locked down to a smaller ~8" diagonal window-- still usable, but seems like an unnecessary limitation. Also, no Wireless Android Auto-- especially with the wireless charging it seems like a logical adder
- TPMS reads higher pressures than my tire gauges and one reads a little off-- maybe there is a calibration that must be run?
- I thought we got the HOLD feature in the US? I can't seem to get it to work if we have it.
- The interior door handles seem very lightweight and flimsy-- seems like they could easily break?
- The glove box latch seems on the cheap side for this class of vehicle

2020 AMG GLC 63
Hey there, nice ride and observations. I also just came from three previous Audi's, the GLC63 being my first Mercedes. My list would pretty much be the same as yours, maybe adding single scroll turbos to the Cons list. The lack of top end power is night and day compared to the S8 I had. Although the M177 platform doesn't seem to be plagued with expensive turbo failures like Audi's 4.0T, maybe another Pro for the AMG. I also hate the start/stop but got used to pressing the off button on the steering wheel drive unit as soon as I start the car.

Other than that the GLC63 is a great car and very unique, top of it's class.

Congrats on the new ride and welcome!

my 2018 GLC 63 has the HOLD feature - once stopped give the brake a quick, not too hard stab and the "HOLD" indicator should show up on the dash

The S6 only had single scroll turbos on the V8 so no difference there-- and I've yet to breach 4,000 rpm in the break-in period. I will probably miss the cylinder deactivation the S6 had-- it'd get 27-28 mpg at 80 mph cruising since it would only run on 4 cylinders most of the time.
If Audi had bothered to put the V8 in the Q5 to create an RSQ5 to compete, I'd have certainly considered it-- especially if it had the old MMI with the wheel (not the touchscreen), but alas they don't compete here. I also wish I could have gotten a 63S, but didn't want a coupe-- another thing we don't get in the US.

I tried that a couple times-- I'll try again.. maybe the car has to have a break-in / initialization period first? Only at 120 miles so far.

Congrats on the 63, it's a beast. Should have the "Hold" feature. Try again and if not, maybe it's turned off in one of the menu's....just a thought. Also, if you really hate the Start/Stop, there is an inexpensive OBD module on Ebay you can get that will turn it off. Enjoy!

It can be a bit finicky perhaps. Took me a while to consistently get it in my C63S. I also came from owning several Audis. Once you come to a full stop, just push the brake pedal further and the hold should come on. You can release it by pushing the brake pedal again or just step on the throttle. You do need to be at a full stop and then push the brake pedal further in than you think. For me it actually sometimes comes on unintended depending on how I'm feathering the brake pedal when coming to a stop. You don't have to stab the brake. Just press it harder once you come to a stop until the Hold comes on in the instrument cluster.

As for the audible lock confirmation, yes MB uses the horn. I have it turned off. The auto folding mirrors are confirmation that the car is locked and if I do forget to lock it, which so far hasn't happened, I get an alert on my phone after about a minute or so and I could lock it remotely. The TPMS sensors don't seem to be a 100% accurate. I have the same issue with my C63S and left rear always seems to be a bit off more than the others. It also depends on the temperature. Every 10F changes the pressure by 1 psi, so depending on what the temperature was when you adjusted the tire pressure it may show something else in the TPMS due to temperature differences.
