Air volume difference between outside/recirculate?

Air volume difference between outside/recirculate?
I've noticed that when it's set to outside air the ac air flow is alot lower than when set to recirculate? You can test this by setting the fan speed to a bit higher like 5 or 6 and switching from outside air to inside you'll notice a big jump in air flow. I am wondering if this is just my car having an issue or is everyone else's the same?

This has been my experience on every car i've owned recently regardless of manufacturer. my understanding is that it does that because its easier to recirculate the air than bring it in from the outside and have it go through filtration, etc. i could be wrong.
