Did I do a bad?

So we picked up the wife's GLC 63 last night and the finance guy made a big push for a service contract. I was not impressed.

The first thing was he said the differential oil needed to be changed at 2,000 miles. I read that has changed and is no longer required, what is the true requirement for this car?

In the end I refused the service contract, $2,500 for 4 years of oil changes and such per the published schedule. Was that a mistake?

I normally do my own oil changes and other maintenance. I've rebuilt transmissions, axles, ... I have the ability to change the oil. I've had dealer screw up my cars in the past, incompetence. This is my first MB, is there a reason I can't do this work myself? Toosl that I need specific to this car?

Thx,
NIXDSG

I cant comment on the rest, but they did change the differential oil requirement on some cars. If your car does require it, there should be a sticker on your window that says so. For example, my 2019 e63s had a sticker saying it was required, while my 2021 e63s did not.

I don't think the rear diff oil change is needed anymore .
Even with the maintenance program , the rear diff oil change was not included .
That's for the GLC . Some got it covered !!
I don't know about other cars .

As far as I know, the 2,000-mile differential oil replacement is not needed for 2020 and later GLC63's, and the oil was not replaced in my car. You can always buy the service contract after you pick up the car, as late as the first scheduled maintenance if not even later. You should also check the actual cost of the scheduled services. I found that the cost of the contract significantly exceeded the current cost of the services.

If you walk away with the finance guy pissed off you did a good job.. My finance guy didn't even offer to shake my hand.

To answer your questions
  • 2020+ has a electronic rear diff and the 2000mi diff oil change recommendation was eliminated. The 2018-2019 actually has that requirement on the recommended break in procedure on the windshield sticker. If you read the sticker on your 2021 you will not see that recommendation
  • Regular oil changes are easy and should cost about $100 depending on the oil. Personally I use Liquimoly 5W40 ($80/10qt) Hengst E155HD122 filter ($8.95) Genuine Mercedes drain plug 000-990-95-18 ($8). The only annoyance is there is no physical dip stick so you have to check oil level through the infotainment and NOTE your hood must be closed to get a reading.
My finance guy tried to sell me a brake maintenance package for $6K trying to tell me brakes on this car will cost north of $10K. I'm not sure if the guy was dumb and didn't know the car doesn't have carbon ceramics or if he thought I was a fool but I just gave him a simple "no, thanks"

You've made a good deal by not taking the pre paid stuff they are a rip off, especially if you do your own oil changes which is less than $200 in parts and in 4 years that is 4 oil changes at only $800 at most.
Regarding the differential oil you should change them at 2k miles, the e-diff being refered to is just an electronic hydraulic that engage and disengage the locking differential, still need to change that oil regardless.
